the internet & its issues with child safety.

corporate internet & why its a problem

i feel like the internet is way too corporate nowadays, you cant even click on a news article without literally 5 popups that take up half the screens advertising you the newest fast fashion app anymore, the internet wasnt like this originally and its time for us to take it back. i have my own webpage free of sponsorships & where its made clear that i'm a human & that everyone else behind websites are too. with the rise of social media-- society has forgotten that there are real people behind the screen & assume that it just being online gives them the right to relentlesly bully or harrass people based on opposing beliefs or simply finding them "cringeworthy" this is ESPECIALLY evident on tiktok & twitter. its time to take back the internet and learn basic coding. i'm tired of relying on social media and everyone else relying on it too. i use emails and escargot.chat to communicate more than ever now. i reccomend you read the internet manifesto. --> https://sadgrl.online/cyberspace/internet-manifesto & about the yesterweb https://yesterweb.org/#summary. this is to lead into my next point,

young kids, the internet, and internet safety.

younger & younger people are online more than ever now, and thats not a good thing anymore. no one under the age of 16 needs to be on social media. when i log onto twitter, i see more 13 year olds than people within my agerange (18-20), THAT IS A PROBLEM. social media is not and has never been intended for kids & whenever platforms intended for kids pop up, its a cesspool of pedophiles, see: mamamax's myLOL video.

we need to bring back spaces for kids online where its actually safe to socialize. remember animal jam and roblox? yeah, despite their hurdles, they were good for the most part as long as you kept in mind internet safety rules, which animal jam is notorious for teaching within the game , over the years, the idea of internet safety has become less and less emphasized, roblox has become a website full of predators, which people blame on online dating when infact it is  due to the quite frank lack of moderation, there is nothing stopping a child from listing their twitters & discords, (which they should NOT HAVE) on their profiles, &  if someone has ID verification stating theyre above the age of 18 there is NO reason to throw them into servers full of kids, and there is NO reason why kids under the age of 18 should be allowed to have voice chat. voice chat in roblox is heavily undermoderated & thats what makes it so unsafe.

animal jam became unsafe once ajhq gave up on updating the game, allowing people such as hyinine1 (an artist notorious for making lewd artwork) run free just because the game is primarily played by people 17 and older, the fact that the playerbase is now older does not negate the fact that the game was originally hosted on national geographic kids & that it is still advertised as kid friendly.

i feel as if once we push for internet safety to be taught in schools once again, the amount of internet predation will go down. when i was in school, internet safety is one of the first things i learned & ignoring what i was taught is what got me in trouble. nowadays, parents are so quick to give their kids an iphone as opposed to a qwerty or flip phone, and teachers are so partial to giving their students chromebooks with unrestricted internet access. when back in the day, all internet access within school devices was heavily restricted. parents do not need to be giving their kids social media. at all. my parents let me have twitter & instagram when i was younger because at the time, it was incredibly safe. not anymore.

the amount of children who begin discourse or fights and begin to threaten people which leads to even more issues needs to stop!

spacehey & its pedophile problem

spacehey has a massive problem from kids listing the fact theyre hypersexual, to predators being able to message minors, there is no doubt that there is an issue that needs to be fixed, which i doubt will be because the internet is a very one man for himself place to be, so heres some tips for any kids who may be reading this.

-stop adding adults & allowing them to IM you

-stop flirting with people older than you. i just dealt with some kid trying to slide on me, who i had to block immediately.  this is part of the problem. stop flirting with people especially if you know theyre older than you it is very unsafe.

-stop listing your fetishes and hypersexuality.

-keep in mind basic internet safety. for the love of god stop listing your location, showing your face & even revealing where you frequent on the day to day basis. stop sharing social medias that have sensitive information such as your school. there is no need to reveal sensitive information about yourself.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

as adults, it is our responsibility to speak up and help keep the children around us as safe as possible, its time to speak up, to do something when you see something, and if you see a child who is underaged posting lewd pictures or making sexual remarks publicly, its time to report that!

it feels like we have taken so many steps BACKWARDS as a society when it comes to online safety. kids seem to list almost every personal detail about themselves (specific mental illnesses, specific triggers, traumas, and sexual fetishes) publicly, which i feel is only a recent issue. when i was younger, we kind of just knew by default to not do that. whether they intend to or not, they are making themselves walking targets, and it is easier than ever for predators to abuse them. i also completely agree that nobody under 16 should have social media. you never realise how immature you actually were until you've aged enough to look back. i can imagine this blog would be pretty unpopular though, considering i've seen people as young as 10 posting on here publicly announcing their age

THIS!!! it's insane how internet safety flew out the window, as a kid, i snuck online when i wasnt supposed to be, and even then, i lied about my age, i lied about where i was from, everything. i told nobody anything personal including anything about my mental health because i was aware that anything said online can and will be used against you in some manner,
i had no clue TEN year olds are on here either. thats a huge problem ,considering spacehey is an emulation of myspace, something someone younger than 16 wouldnt rememeber in ANY CAPACITY, why is a kid here?? i wonder where the admins are, i feel like spacehey should operate like any other platform where you can report someone for being underaged, no 10 year old needs to be on here what the fuck

giving credit where its due, most of the time those accounts are quickly reported and taken down. though i feel like there should be some kind of auto-moderation on here, as it can take quite a while for staff to address issues. they have to sift through about 100 daily blogs on random site drama lol

Indeed, the Internet has brought too much harm to children, it can let children know in advance what they shouldn't know or learn at this age, and the things shown on the Internet can't guide children in time to find out whether they are correct or true or false, which children can't judge, and therefore, it has caused a lot of tragedies.
There are also hazards to the body, such as browsing the Internet for a long time can make the eyes nearsighted, or in severe cases, the eyes will go blind. Although, these we can not change, but we parents can go to correct them, for example, need to browse the cell phone, need to wear anti-blue light safety glasses, these are effective in reducing the harm, which has detailed information and also in this website https://jlsportglasses.com/safety-goggles/. There are many more, and I won't introduce them all here, as parents should fulfill their obligations.

are we sharing our braincells?

no but fr it really freaks me out how kids are so welcomed into adult spaces. i recall one person on spacehey had a very obviously 18+ profile, their username was a bdsm reference, they were very open in their about me that they were interested in e-dating people on spacehey, dont add if youre a minor, all that shit. and there was a group of kids screaming that they should be banned for "invading a space for children"

kids dont own the internet!!! i think because people born like 2000s and later grew up with the internet, they also grew up with all the pats-on-the-back for being so tech-oriented, to the point they think the internet is theirs alone, and we're (at least in the us) replacing a lot of kids' real-world independence with online independence. like. wanna go dancing with your friends on a friday night? nope!! there might be pedophiles!!! wanna just walk to the damn store and buy something with your pocket change in broad daylight? no!!! youll get abducted!!! wanna just walk into your own fucking high school unbothered? someone might have a gun!!!! so now kids are trying to seek independence in the only place they're allowed to, which is by some fucking horror, the internet. it's awful to watch.

"invading a space for children" is fucking insane because spacehey is a clone of myspace, an app and site that no one born after 2005 remembers in any capacity. you literally have to be older than 18 to remember what myspace even was so it makes no sense to me that small children are running around on this site acting as if it was made for them. like.. if ur an adult obviously dont add 12 year olds and shit but saying someones invading adult spaces on a site clearly originally intended for adults just by EXISTING is downright insane

and god i totally agree w the second part of your comment, spaces for kids irl no longer exists and it results in them running to spaces online not meant for them, see: 13 year olds on twitter and it ends in them being incredibly entitled toward the people the app is actually meant for or ends up with them being harmed in some way. its just very very scary to watch, growing up, my social media was animal jam & moshi monsters, completely safe, but now that games made for kids, and even malls and shit are pushing kids out / shutting down, kids just run to places NOT meant for them, and its seen a lot when adults wanna draw nsfw too. they'll intentionally enter spaces marked 18+ and then throw a fit when the art is nsfw and not meant for them, and proceed to try to bully the artist into going private like.. uh.. yeah! it says adults only for a reason! you wouldnt had seen it if you LISTENED to the warning given to you!

worst part is, i work in customer service and i can tell you, those parents suddenly get a backbone once someone else tries to do their job. if a kid is being ridiculously rowdy to the point of being a security threat or something, and you say anything to them or ask the parents to say anything, they will defend them tooth-and-nail. i imagine it's out of embarrassment, but for fucks sake! i remember twice i had someone accuse me of shit i didnt do, and with absolutely no hesitation whatsoever my parents grounded me. i lived like an amish workhorse for a month each. their job wasn't to be my friend or wArRiOr, it was to be my parent, so that's what they defaulted to. it's like a whole new layer of sheltering - not only are they sheltered from the real world and normal human behavior, but from consequences as well. OH MY GOD I SOUND LIKE A BOOMER
