My impressions after watching Game of Thrones for the first time

DISCLAIMER: THIS BLOG ENTRY IS FULL OF GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS, SO IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE SHOW YET, I ADVISE YOU TO GO AND WATCH IT FIRST, AND AFTER DOING SO, YOU WILL BE WELCOME TO WHINE ABOUT MY SHITTY TAKES ON IT IN THE COMMENT SECTION.

Hello folks,

recently, I finished watching Game of Thrones for the first time and I want to share with you my impressions and honest opinions on it. So to start things off, it is worth mentionig that I watched the whole show in 2 weeks, and it says a lot (not only about me), but most of all about the show itself. So after reading the previous sentence, you may assume that the show was spectacular and I really enjoyed watiching it. But was that really the case? Frankly speaking, I definitely enjoyed most of the show, however it was far from perfect and later I will explain why.

I approached the show with high expectations and it didn't take long for the series to meet them as the last scene of the very first episode of the show (Jaime pushing Bran out of the window) made me watch the next episode and with each cliffhanger I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. To be honest, the first four seasons were very impressive and up to that point each thread was very coherent and really gripping. I think the show reached its peak in the season's 4 finale in which Tyrion killed Shae who cheated on him with Tywin whom Tyrions killed afterwards. This episode alone left me speachless and made me start to believe that THIS show is the greatest TV series of all time.

However, it didn't take much time for the producers of the show to prove me wrong as each following season was less and less impressive. Over the course of the last 4 seasons of GoT, the vast majority of characters was becoming more and more annoying and their decision making was increasingly questionable. For example, let's take a look at Litllefinger's death. The dude was a straight mastermind and arguably had a bigger brain than Tyrion's and Varys's brains combined, and yet THIS character let himself be played like a little child by Sansa and Arya who with a little help of Bran's secret powers, discovered the whole truth about Petyr's aciotns. First of all, how on earth Littlefinger didn't foresee this possibility to take place. Like, he is the person who said:

"Every possible series of events is happening all at once. Live that way and nothing will surprise you. Everything that happens will be something that you've seen before." - Season 7, Episode 3

It really pissed me off when I realised that, and I also strongly believe that it wasn't actually that hard from his perspective to think about the scenario in which either Arya or Sansa asked Bran  about the one of the sisters' motivations behind scheeming against the other. The other thing that really made me pissed, was the fact how rushed was the final season of the show. I really hate it that the producers of GoT decided to stuff so much action in 6 episodes, because in my opinion a lot of decisions made by the characters turned out to be very unnatural and out of place. For example, I wish that producers of the show created more episodes to better depict Dany's descent into madness as it would have been much more clearer for the casual viewer to understand why she decided to burn down the entirety of King's Landing. Besides that, there were plenty of logic-defying moments in season 8 such as Arya magically teleporting behind Night King's back to kill him or Jon screaming at the dragon and running away from him instead of just killing him with his Valyrian steel sword. Things like these really irritate me because I feel like someone is trying to make a complete fool out of me. Nevertheless, the latter seasons are full of amazing highlights such as Cersei blowing up the Sept, Arya saying "Thank you" to The Hound and calling him by his name, Arya taking revenge on Walder Frey and many other moments which I didn't mention.

All in all, despite all its flaws, Game of Thrones is a great TV series full of complex characters, which also has a fantastic soundtrack and was shot in beautiful locations.

Before I end, I want to present you my top 10 favourite characters in the show.
