i wrote this a couple of weeks ago, after i saw the moon from my bedroom window and was struck by an overwhelming feeling of loneliness. it took like five minutes. again the title sucks, i'm just titling them because otherwise they won't post ;-; i hope you enjoy :))
She rests her cheek on the back of her hand as she gazes into the sky above her garden. The moon is partially hidden behind the overhang of her roof, and so she tilts her head until her forehead presses against the cold sill to be able to see it clearly.
"Hi." Her voice is rough from a long day of loneliness. She swallows. Licks her lips. Tries again.
"It's nice to see you."
The moon, of course, doesn't respond. A thin cloud drifts in front of it; for a second she fears that it will vanish, and she will again be alone in the darkness. The cloud passes. The moon seems brighter. Her throat begins to burn as she thinks of all the things she wants to say - maybe not to the moon, but to the wider universe beyond it. To whoever or whatever is plotting her life, and deciding that she is undeserving of everything she has ever longed for.
She wants to ask: Why? Why not? When? What do I need to do?
Am I going to be alone forever?
But she will never demand, or accuse. Not when the moon looks down on her like that. Instead, with tears on her cheeks and a thickness in her throat, she will simply ask the same question she has always asked.
"Can you make someone fall in love with me tomorrow?"
