All the drums were done last Saturday. The bass took a day and a half, which is still very good. Yesterday, we started recording my guitar parts, as far as rhythms and some harmonies.
Harmonies?!
On a Steve Bello record?!
Not the first time I did them but not something I do quite a lot. One song (the title track) was begging for harmonies that would climb and build tension. I call it my "evil Brian May" sound :)
But yes, I did three of the eight songs yesterday. The night before, we were in the studio from 10am until 7:30pm. We were WIPED OUT, so we called it a night WHEW! Recording is definitely a lot of work, and it only gets more grueling as you get older. I'm still ambitious as ever, still undaunted and unfazed that I'm 53 and cranking guitar-fiasco metal.
We won't be back in the studio until this Wednesday, where I will tackle the rest of the rhythms. And if we get to do some melodies, that's cool. If not, we go back this Saturday anyway. Not rushing to get this done but the vibes are flowing, so we are capitalizing on things.
I have been working on the cd sleeves and liner notes too. Playing with colors, fonts, photos, just like when I would do demos in college and then eventually doing what was my first album TWISTED METAL twenty years ago.
Let the last eight words of that sentence sink in...
