bittersweet weekend

I had a great weekend, not gonna lie...I spent Saturday at the car meet with my friends, had some pizza, got my ice cream, plus some cool lids (love my pink Hello Kitty hat!!!). It was a great afternoon, even tho the evening drive back was horrible - people really need to show some respect for the road!!

One thing I noticed was one of my friends talking with a few other people about a car guy who had recently passed away...sadly, a lot of gearheads are older guys & some of them have kids/grandkids who are either not into the hobby at all or are hardcore into JDM (which in my opinion is total garbage, BUT to each his/her own). Others have no family left to leave their beloved rides to, so when we lose one it is really pretty much a tragedy. Plus, one of the old timers had a bad fall while we were there - I was told he's okay but damn it was still kinda scary.

Then this morning I woke up to some terrible news - now, my friends like to go to captree on Sunday mornings, but because I'm a night owl there's absolutely no way in Hell I can join them because by the time I'm waking up they're already leaving for the day. While I was browsing the pics I came across some terrible news: a custom Cobra roadster crashed on its way out, & both the driver & passenger (husband & wife) were killed. I recognized the car when I saw the photo - nice couple, I had seen them a few times last summer. Just really bummed me out, you know?

Then the kicker: I sent a mothers day text to a friend who had recently retired...she called me back right away, & before I could say anything, she told me to sit down & listen: the reason she had been completely AWOL ever since was because she had been in the hospital after suffering a stroke. She's been on medication & a strict diet ever since - she can't even drive anywhere!

I was stunned. Total WTF moment. I mean, I'm glad she's okay but DAMN!!!

A reminder that sometimes we really do need to stop and smell some roses sometime...because you never know...
