Dream in Drive - The Oral Cigarettes

March 28th 2020
Some of you might already be familiar with The Oral Cigarettes, especially if you have watched Noragami.

I think that The Oral Cigarettes have a very interesting rock style. To me, it feels like they have a mix of a few different rock genres. This gives The Oral Cigarettes a unique sound. Their instrumental provides the music with a more aggressive feel making the music more heavy. But the vocals of Takuya are so much softer than the music. I feel like this difference creates a good balance, making the song memorable. Takuya has a very unique voice; I find it soothing even when they make his voice sound more robotic. Their music does remind me somewhat of Hyde's. Even though Hyde's music is a lot heavier than The Oral Cigarettes, I can see them taking his influence.

Takuya also wrote and composed this song. Takuya's voice portrays a beautifully emotional story as if he's trying to convey a message to someone. Then when looking at the translation, the lyrics tell the message of fighting for your dreams. They also mention being tied to them by a red string, like the red string of fate. This red string is symbolised a couple times in the music video, too, as the man is tied to red cables, and there are red lasers when they show the band. The song tells the listener to keep a hold of their dreams but also talks about them being connected by this red string so that it is your destiny to fulfil those dreams. So perhaps it could also be seen as a love song. Either way it allows the world to disappear as you are in the moment.

To be honest, I don't really know what to say. I feel like this is one of those songs you have to experience yourself and make your own story. Please let me know yours. Thanks again for reading x
