sharing my thoughts on gyaru gatekeeping

hi hello i just wanted to write my thoughts down on this before i forget. basically ive noticed an uncomfortable amount of gatekeeping within the gal community which makes me both really uncomfortable yet happy we're not letting "cosplayers" in

however this gets a bit much when someone is obviously trying to do everything they can (make, whatever codes they can, nails hairstyles etc etc) yet they simply get cast aside and called non-gal just because their circumstances don't allow them to reach their full potential. one thing i have noticed, though, is that with the people gatekeeping SO HARD usually own multiple brand items or have spent all their money on gal stuff in general that they're literally broke as fuck

of course, yes, to be gal you HAVE to do your make AND WEAR IT OUTSIDE. wear whatever gal codes you can come up with, and diy everything you can, but i think its kinda funny how one of the first tips you get when youre getting into gal is to "work with what you have in your closet first" yet baby gals especially are shaming for doing just that... calling their fits "shein fits" and "bastardized gyaru"? really? well then you'd be quite surprised how many japanese gal models have shein partnerships, lol

this type of intense gatekeeping is honestly the ugliest part of gal (aside from lolcow) because it just.. makes gals, especially less experienced ones, slowly dislike the community even if they adore gyaru itself. they don't deserve to be shamed for wearing "shein clothes" ... as long as you style your things right, it literally doesn't matter.

i understand you're trying to keep gal what it actually is, but NOTHING. is ever as serious as humiliating and dogpiling on someone's post because they "don't like gyaru" as much as you do!!!! no! we're all passionate about it!!! god! HOW is someone supposed to gain experience without TRYING to participate? plus, you were a baby gal once too, everyone has bad clothing days as sad as it is

just because someone tries to manage their money, or doesn't go for 2000s gal, doesn't mean they're not gal. i also understand that gal is an expensive lifestyle, and that gals can be "harsh with their critique", but this isn't critique. yes, gals 100% should do their own research because you will never get it right if you don't, but there's not critique here. you're just expressing hate because someone's not as experienced. what do you gain except for feeding your ego? when someone tells you that yes they're passionate about gal too but you ignore that just to ghost them or send a skull emoji who does that help? god. as much as i love experienced gals and truly do look up to them and their skills, this just puts me down SO much, as someone who's been into it for around a year now. i've decided to unfollow them although i'll miss looking at their make, but tbh it's not worth the bullying i see nearly daily.. if you think someones doing it wrong just tell them to do more research. simple
