Little Miss Mickey Mouse.

I'm an average girl and I've experienced my average bite of racism from people. At this point, racism has become a casual thing to people of the world. Today's black girl issue is hair.

People often have many questions about my hair, curiosity is very fine, unless the question is kind of silly. Here is the first rule, never touch no black person's hair without permission. If I sat behind someone of a race different than mine, I would not start braiding and fiddling with their hair. My friend kept asking "Can I braid your hair?", this was when I had my natural hair in by the way. I kept telling her "No." because my hair takes very long to prepare, but she kept asking and I eventually gave up. She also once brushed my hair WITHOUT even asking first. Please, if you have a black friend no any friend, don't touch their hair without permission. People I wasn't even friends with have played with my hair calling it "Fluffy!" or "It's like a cloud!", I love compliments, but I don't need touching.

Another issue I get is, tugging on my box braids. Please do not EVER pull a black girl's box braids, this is not something you ask permission for, it is straight up disrespectful and it hurts. My friend has tugged on my box braids as a "joke" and acted like I was a horse using my braids as reigns and let me tell you this, I do not find any of these jokes funny. That "fake horse hair" is actually connected to my real one and does not mean I cannot feel it.

Next, your probably wondering why this blog entry is called "Little Miss Mickey Mouse"? Well, this is what some people call my afro puffs to insult me. If you are seriously calling my afro puffs "Mickey Mouse" as an insult, EVEN WHEN I HAVE ONE AFRO PUFF, can you shut it? It's like me calling your hair a grease vat, a whole fast food restaurant, would you not be offended? My mom used to say "Do you want Mickey Mouse? (meaning do you want me to do afro puffs?)" and I used to love it, but now it just feels like someone slapping my face.

Well that's all from your favourite fried chicken muncher! Tell me stories about your hair, I would love to know your experiences! Anyways, black girl out!
