The Foundations of Decay - Year Anniversary

In honor of the year anniversary in a week I need to talk about the incredibleness of this song!

I am specifically going to be talking about the lyrics

(I feel like I'm back in high school English)

*For me personally how I understand things, don't attack me this is just my take

The first few lines:

See the man who stands upon the hill

He dreams of all the battles won

But fate had left its scars upon his face

With all the damage they had done

The imagery just places us in the world. The song is centered around this post-apocalyptic world but I love how it has the double meaning of the story and what they are really saying.

And so time, with age

It turns the page

Let the flesh

Submit itself to gravity

There are so many phrases from this song that I would get tattooed. (I feel like I don't need to spell out what they are saying - I could do a deep dive but I am not going to).

If your convictions were a passing phase

May your ashes feed the river in the morning rays

Need i say more?

Verse 2:

He was there, the day the towers fell

And so he wandered down the road

Gerard partly talking about his (and other's) experience with 911. What some people say to be what started MCR.

And we would all build towers of our own

Only to watch the roots corrode

I love this lyric.

This lyric:

And if by his own hand his spirit flies

Take his body as a relic to be canonized

If you commit you will be seen as a saint. This lyric made me want to do this blog (i was going to do a bulletin but i thought, nah).

And so he gets to die a saint

but she will always be a whore

This lyric is very special to me as well. The man who dies will be a "saint" but the woman will always be shamed.

I feel this alot of the time (afab). When a "man" does something he is just going through something or troubled, but when a "woman" does something she is crazy.

The way they say this line:

You must fix your heart

Just listen to the song, I can't get over this part I could listen forever.

The ending:

And as the swarm it calls we lay in the foundations

I love the tour merch referencing this line

Get

Up

Coward

The ending!!! Did I need to hear this, absolutely! Please tell me to get up Gerard, god knows I'm not going to listen to anyone else.

Thanking for reading my first blog

(I tried posting this before with the link to Spotify but it didn't work - luckily I suspected something to go wrong and copied it to Word)

Please comment. I was never good at English, don't judge too harshly T_T
