hello friends !! ^_^
so i've been trying to get more into reading recently as a way to try improve my terrible attention span and memory ... & luckily my best friend is a big time reader so she's been able to give me some recs !
we watched "Daisy Jones & The Six" together and it made me really want to read the book, and i luv it so far.. it's a pretty easy read as it's written like a transcript/interview which is so fun and much easier to digest . plus it's inspired by the story of Fleetwood Mac & i love them sooo that's def a bonus! i haven't finished reading it yet tho bc uni work n stuff </3
after class yesterday i went to the bookstore and picked up "My Alcoholic Escape from Reality" by Nagata Kabi - a manga/memoir about her relationship with alcoholism & also her parents i think? i did read her previous book ("My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness"), which was so good but also fucking heartbreaking, and as another mentally ill lesbian, my heart feels for her. and the way she has 5 books on her life AND another one releasing this year??? damn that girl has been through A LOT i hope she's okay TT. but maybe when i finish the second book i'll make a full review of both :) when i have the time ofc
anyway, before Daisy Jones, I read "I'm Glad my Mom Died" by Jennette McCurdy, and god was it such a fun yet dark read. It's a very interesting insight on child stardom and what she went through during her time as an actress, with the added weight of eating disorders, shitty relationships, and of course her relationship with her mother (and her passing). i managed to finish it in a week during a holiday trip, which was really nice as i read most of it on the beach - i also got to read part of it to my brother and his girlfriend and they took it as a dark bedtime story LMAOO
yeah, i think it's about time i read a book that's not fully based around mental health and trauma to be honest... but they're just so interesting (and unfortunately somewhat relatable in some ways).
if you guys have any other book recommendations i'd love to hear them as i need to find more things to read to keep me motivated <3 preferably things based off real stories or have been turned into movies/series bc it makes it easier for me to read ~
okay now back to homework for me ..
xoxo wormi 🪱❤️🩹

I highly recommend reading the Twilight books if you like the movie (the books are 10000 times better tho) and I recommend Alice Oseman books if you like queer rep. other honorable mentions are "the perks of being a wall flower" hope this helps at all!

I missed the part where you said things that are based on real stories or have movies/adaptations!!
THE BOOK THIEF by markus zusak has a gorgeous 2013 movie adaptation that's quite faithful to the book!!
MISS PEREGRINES PECULIAR CHILDREN by ransom riggs has one movie made in 2016 - it's not 'good' in terms of being an adaptation, but on it's own it stands up. the books feature found photographs that ransom riggs has collected, and the story is built around the photos!
THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY by mary ann shaffer - 2018 movie, the book is told through a series of letters.
HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE by Diana Wynn Jones, middle grade, very different to the 2004 studio ghibli film
A MONSTER CALLS by patrick ness. film came out in 2016, the book is absolutely gorgeous. however it's quite heavy as it focuses on some difficult topics, so maybe not that lol

if ur into sci-fi/space opera's then THE WAYFARERS SAGA by becky chambers is one of my favourites!
if u like ya contemporary romance: THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN ME IS YOU by lily anderson (retelling of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, so cute!)
for memoirs, EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT LOVE by dolly alderton!
i really enjoyed SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO by taylor jenkins reid, which takes place in the same universe as DJ&TS, but also ONE TRUE LOVES i think is my favourite that i've read of hers so far
if u like found family and queer romance, and magical realism/fantasy: THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA by T.J. Klune. UNDER THE WHISPERING DOOR also fits this description, but I prefered THITCS over it :)
happy reading!!
