Ranting about characters and shit

My thoughts on characters & shtuff

Okie, sooo… I sort of talked a bit about this on someone else’s bulletin but imma make this a blog anyway because now I’m thinking about it way too much.

Yk how pretty much every movie or show has characters that are like this:

•Perfect little baby angel forever

•Evil bad guy villain forever

•Evil bad guy turned perfect angel

•perfect angel turned bad guy

I feel like these tropes are SO overused. Like, these characters will have some flaws here and there but none of them are like ACTUAL flaws that people have, yk?

Like there will be a character who’s only flaw is that they chew too loudly or smthing, but I rarely see characters who are genuinely good people but struggle with stuff like addiction, anger issues, god complexes, narcissistic personality disorders, anxiety and/or depression, etc., that kind of shit which is really underrepresented and misrepresented in media.

In most shows, characters will either never fuck up or will never have to deal with their fuck up(or they’ll briefly encounter a small consequence of a major fuck up and go about their day in like five minutes). I’m not saying that’s a bad thing in every situation and I understand why people write characters and storylines this way, but I think it’s nice to see lovable characters with certain attributes that aren’t “perfect” and I think it’s nice to see how characters’ actions can catch up to them, ykwim?
