so one of my friends on instagram asked why i always capitalized Myspace like it was a person. I thought it might be a good idea to explain on here too! I used to be part of scenecore tumblr, a subculture based on re-inventing scene in a way that's (more) possible in the modern day. Part of that was kids posting pictures they found from googleing "scene kid" and saying things like "I wish I was old enough to be scene in 2005!" a lot of the kids in my little community basically worshiped Myspace and Myspace screenshots. A lot of us went to Myspace and made profiles, but it changed so much that we never used them (some of us still go and try to find old scene queens/kings so we can look at their posts. that website is like a ghost town now). We used to capitalize Myspace as a sign of respect, which sounds creepy but let me explain. You have to remember that we were maybe 11 years old at this point, and most of us lived in families that had strict rules on respect, and Myspace was something that all of us saw in the same way we see and look up to our parents. Most of us dressed in scenecore clothing (layered shirts, pants way to tight, baggy socks, colorful bandaids, ect.) and got made fun of for it. So, we turned to Myspace as an escape, as a way to say "wow, I wish I was around then. Scene kids were everywhere!!" and we would have whole chat rooms where we pretended it was still 2007. Thinking back on it, it was probably the start of me throwing myself fully into the 2000's (because anything is better than 2020)
