Home Sweet Home Alone is a terrible movie | Movie Reviews

Rating: 3/10

Spoiler free section:
Not really much to say. Sloppy movie which relies on its humor too much rather than an actual plot. That could work, but when your humor is so terrible, it doesn't work at all. Don't waste your time with this movie. I won't tell you that it is good for mindless fun because it isn't a fun movie.

Heavy spoilers for Home Sweet Home Alone beyond here but you probably don't care since it is a waste of an hour and twenty five minutes of your time anyways.

Summary

I don't know the character's names so whatever.

This spoiled British boy needs to go to the bathroom so goes into an open house with his mom to use the bathroom. He is shown some dolls, one of which is deformed which makes it worth $200k+. The boy goes home with his family and sleeps in the garage. Yada yada, yelling by the family, left at home.
The people who own the dolls don't want to sell the house and the money from it would let them keep it but the doll is missing. They suspect Brit Boy stole it. However Brit Boy thinks they want to kidnap him and commits attempted murder many times.
Shennanigens ensues, they break in, traps, then he realizes the misunderstanding and everyone lives happily ever after.

A bunch of stuff is wrong with this movie

I will excuse people not dying when they clearly should, but I will not excuse 99% of the BS that happens in this movie.

First of all, they removed all semblance of an emotional arc for the characters. They don't have anything resembling or even replacing the standard arc from the first two (MC meets scary character, learns by the end that the character is really a nice person). This movie is pure shennanigans which can be okay, but that brings me on to my second point.

Second, the shennanigans in this movie are terrible. I never laughed at any point and it is not hard to get me to laugh. Everything just wasn't good and I feel part of this is because of my third point.

The main "villains" are not villains, Brit Boy is. The main villains aren't doing this maliciously like the villains in 1 and 2 (I haven't watched any of the other ones. This is the third Home Alone I have watched) where you can argue they deserve everything coming at them in some way. The entire conflict here is based on a misunderstanding. A boy commits attempted murder based on a misunderstanding in this movie. The two "villains" repeatedly ask him to listen and talk for a second yet he completely ignores them (even when at a safe distance like on a balcony when they are outside of a house) and continues tormenting them. However, even though the "villains" were punished too much, the same goes the opposite way.

The "villains" weren't put in jail. The police weren't even called. What the actual fuck. The police would notice this happening (screams of pain aren't exactly quiet, neighbors would call the police) and should be called by the boy the exact moment the "villains" get into the house. In fact, that is what is done in Home Alone. However, if the police are called and the people who broke into a house are arrested then there cannot be a nice emotional moment between the boy and the "villains". This point is making me tempted to actually prosecute Brit Boy for attempted murder. Why would he not call the cops unless he enjoyed the idea of tormenting them and killing them...

Then, the idea that the "villains" forgive Brit Boy. When someone gives you terrible injuries (which disappear the next day for whatever reason) it doesn't matter if it was a misunderstanding, YOU DON'T FORGIVE THEM. THEY HAVE NEARLY KILLED YOU, A MISUNDERSTANDING DOES NOT EXCUSE IT.

I could go on for so long but there really isn't much of a point. Just a terrible movie.
