I went to see the Super Mario Movie for a second time today! With my whole family. It was quite good, and cemented my opinion on it a lot. I quite like the Mario series as a whole, and while the movie was a bit more theme park ride than movie, it was nice!
I also realized on the "Jungle Kingdom" [This name always threw me off, you could've just called it Donkey Kong Island, though I realized why this wouldn't work later.] is not based on Donkey Kong Country at all! At least, not on the original source. The Jungle Kingdom is actually based on the Mario Kart 7 Course, DK Jungle. Which explains why there's so many karts in the area, and the whole Aztec theming they went for in this part of the movie. I still find it stupid they based the whole Donkey Kong part off of just this specific course, rather than an actual Donkey Kong game though.
Another thing that I wished to see, was just more Luigi! Though I wish for a Luigi's Mansion movie as much as Charlie Day, I think the next movie [no kidding they're going to make another movie, look at how much money was made.] is going to be based on Super Mario World? Since that's when Yoshi debuts. Though we did see a bit of Yoshi's island in the movie.
Since I had gone to the movie with my family, I got to talk to my giant video game nerd uncles. When talking about the music score, my Uncle Kenny, had said he wished there was a Mario 2 reference in one of them, but noticed it wasn't that much of a "Mario 2 movie." I then, the fucking nerd I am, easily responded with how, there's technically a Mario 2 reference, in the fact that when Mario and Luigi jump onto bullet bills, they do not get taken out.
I then also had to explain to my mother, how Wario and Waluigi, are not related to Mario and Luigi. Though it's been shown Wario's known Mario since they were kids in the manga. [Another fun fact is that in the gaming magazine "Nintendo Power" it's said that Waluigi was hired by Wario, and maybe even married and divorced. Though that last part is most likely only a joke. One can dream.]
