im so fucking close to a way to completely get off spotify (read if you also want off spotify)

(i wrote almost all of this out last night and then it got deleted when i accidentally left the page)

so obviously we all know spotify Fucking sucks but theyre really good at anchoring you to it through predatory anti-customer practices. SO obviously since i have hundreds of several hour long playlists its not very easy for me to just hop off! so ive been cooking up a big plan...

i originally had a much shittier time solving the issue because the ideal solution hadnt yet presented itself, but basically i want to get an mp3 for all my songs in all my playlists, put those on a server running at home (im getting that set up next weekend!!) then access that remotely on any device through nextcloud or jellyfin.

BUT the problem is getting an mp3 for each track, because Spotify's API (or lack thereof) does NOT make that easy. so originally i was designing a program that could use a spreadsheet version of the playlists (generated through a free app called extractify to automatically rip the audio files from a youtube upload of the song, (using the pytube library) but that ended up being far too inconsistently accurate to pull off, as a lot of the tracks just have never been uploaded to youtube.

things absolutely were not working out and i was damn near ready to give up... until i discovered the holy fucking grail that is DEEZER PREMIUM.

basically deezer absolutely has everything thats on spotify... and it's API allows you to straight up rip mp3 files from the website... and there's a 1 month free trial. SO!

heres the plan:
 - i use the free trial and get my api key, then start the heist
 - i rip every song from my spotify off of deezer while the premium trial lasts
 - then when im done, load the files onto my server and cancel the subscription

its the perfect crime. really fucking hyped abt this if you couldn't tell. i fucking love piracy. i love owning my own drm-free shit to do whatever i want with. drm is fucking evil and unethical and using shit that requires me to deal with drm makes me feel like garbage so i cannot fucking wait to get this plan kicked off as soon as my finals are done
