He passed away in September 2021 and to be quite honest, we didn't get along very well as we were too different.. specially about religious stuff he never wrapped his head around my agnosticism and used to scream a lot and I never enjoyed going to church with the family anyway...
The guy was the best guitar player I know.. he had great ear for music and his cooking skills were off the charts. Kind of a stern father but all it took was for me or my brother to get a simple cold or a scratch and he'd get all worried and sweet... he had a big heart and was a hell of a dad and I miss him very much, even his screaming, his ramblings about mom always guessing what would happen in the end of a movie (gosh her deduction skills are annoying asf lol) and the way he'd always run his hand over his hair, he had great hair btw and a very distinctive mustache.
All those differences I had with him washed away when he passed, and the older I get the more I notice I'm becoming like him, the way I talk and how I started handling social situations better by mimicking him.. he was a natural people person, always told great jokes and hyped everyone up even in the toughest days.
He wasn't perfect but he was my dad, I love him.
I wish he could've met my girlfriend... He always gave me the best advice on how to be a good, trustworthy, decent man who'd treat his partner with the uttermost respect and love and always, always talk to them no matter what.
His love for movies was incredible and I can't watch an 80's - 90's movie without feeling like my dad is by my side telling me how cool was that chase, or asking how the heck is that guy gonna get out of that situation :)
Yeah, depending on the context we got along pretty alright...
If you got this far and you love your dad, please, just tell him! Really, go down the stairs, or text him or even call him telling how much you love him because those amazing guys who looked after us (and sometimes still do, even if you're 30 and married) don't live forever...
