Vent - When people bring up money....

Okay, I don't know if this is a popular pet-peeve or not. But it absolutely irks me. I don't like when I bring up something that makes me happy or something I'd like to own one day, whether it be a craft, a pet, a material item or anything really. And the person you're talking to instantly brings up the cost of everything. Implying it's a waste or that it's unattainable.

I loathe this for two reasons.

1. They are ASSUMING your financial situation & making judgements based on said assumptions. For all they know you're a master-saver or investor, no matter what your job is. Or maybe you worked your ass off to be able to afford the things that bring your life ease or joy.

(Or they're assuming you're dumb & haven't done the research into a literal passion of yours. )

2. They're frankly just being negative in my opinion. Like, if something keeps me from going into a depression, who cares how much it costs? As long as I am being responsible..

All in all, it's none of their business if I can afford it or not. It's also not their place to tell me if something is a waste because it's a matter of opinion. If your first reaction to someone talking about their hobbies or goals, is to bring up money, you're a life-sucker. :^|

Does anyone else feel this way?
