Scream VI (2023) Short Review:
Production/Critic: 9/10 (would be higher but I wish they utilized the character of the city more)
Own Enjoyment: 7.1/10 (a solid, enjoyable slasher; not a fan of a certain romance and the movie's Ghostface as much tho)
How much would I recommend it to others: 8.5/10 (a good watch regardless if you're alone or as a group, but definitely better as a group)
Wikipedia synopsis: Scream VI follows a new Ghostface killer who targets the survivors (Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding) of the "Woodsboro legacy attacks" in New York City. (My additions: The "Woodsboro legacy attacks" survivors deal with the external and internal consequences of the ending of Scream V. Also a couple legacy characters return to kick some ass.)
Would I watch it again? Only if my friends want to. It's a good movie but I like Scream V better (hard movie to top imo). The additions to the cast should've had more scenes; it's such a disservice that the characters that I cared for are just characters from the previous movies (I liked everyone's performances, but there could've been so much more). The motivations make sense and all, especially following the fifth movie, but it didn't catch my eye or anything. It's unfortunate that Neve Campbell was not offered her worth; very possible the original script would've made for a better movie. Despite my criticisms, it's still a good movie with good kills, good fights, and good chases---the whole meal. Also, if yall haven't watched the previous 5 movies there are spoilers for ALL of them in this one (yes this includes each movies Ghostfaces AND the fates of certain characters). Maybe I would've liked it more if I'd seen all the Scream movies. It's Top 3 material (when it comes to ranking all the Scream movies) but it's not #1 on my list. Cautiously intrigued about Scream VII.

solid review!
i personally loved this one more than V, but i agree that there should have been a few more scenes with the additional cast in it + i also was not a huge fan of some of the romance (although one couple did make me feel a lot more strongly than i expected)
i'm sure me seeing all the highs and lows of the scream franchise has made me appreciate this movie more, so i'm interested in what made V better for you? :)

Haha tysm I appreciate the feedback!! Yeah my friends are the same way too; they also prefer VI over V. There was one romance that I would like to see explored more in future movies (pls dont kill them off or make them the killer in VII it would be such a waste).
I think I prefer V over VI is bc we get to spend more time with everyone in the cast (in terms of equal amounts of screen time), I liked the little twists and turns, and Ik the Ghostfaces' motives in the third act were a hit or miss with audiences but I actually liked how silly, funny, and meta it was. To me, the whole movie was a perfect "soft reboot" and a big "fuck you" to internet and fandom culture.
Before watching VI I thought it was gonna commentate on influencer culture and the whole "bigger is better" concept (which it kinda did) but I wanted more. NYC was a great choice for a fresh location but I felt like they couldve done more with it (it feels like if you take the setting out of the equation the plot could easily take place in another city). Maybe I wouldve liked it more if I didnt have any predictions going in.
Its really nice hearing your thoughts; I really do appreciate it!
