recent cassette tape grabs for march + april

aight so bam.

i've been grabbing a lotta records and tapes in the mail lately and my collection which honestly does not need to get any bigger is at the point to where i think i can share the pieces i've gotten! hopefully i put someone on to some ill shit.

  • Sir Froderick - Beware the Sentinels!! (2022) (instrumental hip-hop)
sir froderick cover

mad ill cassette color, came in this dope royal purple hue that's styled like transparent glass instead of opaque plastic. haven't given the entire LP a listen yet, but his last project Rachel's Suffering at the Hands of the Sentinels was one of my favorite finds during 2020.

  • Duster - Stratosphere (1998/2022) (shoegaze/emo)
duster cover

super spacey album son. shit feels like a warm hug through the walkman. if you like stuff like The Veldt, Starflyer 59, Gaze or maybe even Lush, you'll enjoy this one. it's on the American Football/vintage americana sort of sound in my opinion, mad ill.

  • Jazzsoon - Heavy Archives, Vol. 9 + 10 (2022 & 2023) (instrumental hip-hop)
heavy arch vol 9

one of my favorite artists/musicians in the beat scene, and a friend of mine out in new york. signed both editions for me and they sound fucking crazy. if you ever get the opportunity to check out Jazz's music and buy it for yourself, do it do it do it.

  • De La Soul - De La Soul is Dead (1991/2023) (hip-hop)
de la is dead cover

full disclosure: for the absolute longest time, this was my least favorite De La album. my all-time favorite will always be Buhloone Mindstate, followed by Stakes is High and then everything else. 'til my girlfriend got me this for my birthday and i listened to it front to back. and holy FUCK was i missing out. there is deadass no bad De La album. every single one is fantastic man. go buy the new press of the vinyl or a cassette whenever you can man.
