cephalopod of the day: star-sucker pygmy octopus

long time no squid my friends! how are you all? i've been glagging and grobblering for the past month and noticed the uproar in the squid community. fret not friends, i bring good news! (in the form of a very cute little octopus)

the star-sucker pygmy octopus, (octopus wolfi), is a wonderful species of octopus that can be found in the indo-pacific region. as its name suggests, this species has a unique ability to cling onto and feed on small, floating organisms like plankton and small crustaceans that are swept up in ocean currents.

measuring just a few centimeters in length, the star-sucker pygmy octopus is one of the smallest octopus species in the world. despite its size, however, its natural colour is a beautiful dark amber that makes it a striking little fella.

the star-sucker pygmy octopus is also known for its unusual feeding habits. unlike most octopus species, which are active hunters, this species prefers to remain stationary, attaching itself to floating objects such as jellyfish or small pieces of debris in order to capture passing prey. It has developed a unique feeding technique that involves using its arms to create a suction-like effect that draws prey towards its mouth!
