now i'm not really smart when it comes to writing album reviews. the most i can do is hand you my other earbud and beg you to listen to a snit-bit of noise. of course, not to say i don't have strong feelings about this album Because I Do, i'm just not-so-good at translating those feelings onto text so take everything i say a little less literally. (oh and ofc i have to drop to never stream halley labs/lapfox from official streams...lol)
but the HALCYONDAZE album by kitcaliber is literally the best. full stop no questions no butts no coconuts. it's so rare that i find myself enamored with a song that i can keep listening to even after overplaying it for months, nevertheless an entire album. every single one of these songs have pulled my heart in different directions. some songs i had to learn to love and some songs felt like love at first sight.
listening to the album back to back with the clean cut transitions feels, not as listening to music but as seeing a story unfold before your eyes. you're emerged in the world of digital hardcore and heavenly amenbreaks, and every single beat paints a color on a canvas; a beautiful green and purple cacophony of senses merging together to offer the experience of a lifetime. the things i would give up if i could go back and listen to this album for the first time; to experience the flutter of emotions that came with every new melody going in and around my head. so
me of my favorite tracks include log4_SUNLUST, TRUEFINAL2, nOISE GATE, and OOPS (this is our fault).
halcyondaze begins with an immediate wave to the listener, which unlike the previous albums of kitcaliber has no specific despriction of the 'fighers log' besides. well. just saying "fighters log" and sampling the "present day, present time" from lain. we're immediatley thrown into a beautiful mess of sounds and senses of booming bass and harsh noise. this intro song perfectly sets the stage of the mood of this album: cold and afraid, yet wise from experience and brave to face them. towards the end of the track it feels like all of the sounds previously introduced through the 1 minute track come back with full force. they overstimulate your senses and you kind quite figure out a specific melody or sample to hold onto. it feels convoluted and messy but its the kind of messy that makes you feel euphoric. it's the kind of messy that shows more that a house has been well-lived in rather than poorly taken care of. you know where everythng is coming from and at the same time you dont; quite literally we're put into the shoes of the atmosphere.. and then cutting off simultaniously. just like that all the noise and grind we were shoved into is gone almost like it never happened or was too fast to fathom.
even if you have no idea who kitcaliber or lapfox is, listen to this album. even if you hate furries or don't like edm or straight up don't listen to music just listen to this. pull up an unofficial stream of the album and lay down on your bed or wherever is cozy and just close your eyes. let the melody unfold infront of you and become immersed in the world for a bit. even if you hate it, listen to it the entire way through and think about it. look at it from an analytical standpoint if you must, i don't care just listen to it. listen to this album because it is actually an experience like genuinely.
