ent s2e4 dead stop

interesting that hoshi has to make a new distress call, they aren't standardized yet. i think it speaks to starfleet's optimism at the time that they didn't think it was important to make one. compared to the speeds of later ships, warp 2 sounds like an absolute crawl.

creepy automated repair station. i dig this. the set design is really neat, the all white, blinking LED covered walls make it very artificial, very ominous. and more holograms! it is funny to watch archer try to interact with a voice-controlled computer as though it's completely foreign. of course the NX-01's computers don't have that capability, but this would be several hundred years after siri and alexa. (they didn't know about that in 2002, of course, but it's still something you'd notice watching in this decade) also interesting to see the first use of proper replicators and tissue regenerators

i think archer's right in his suspicion, given that the station's collected a shitton of information on them and they have no idea who built/runs it. i think it's nice that t'pol was the one to comment on it, continues her pattern of acknowledging archer's emotions without demeaning them, even if she does think humans should be more logical or what have you. i am rotating the two of them in my brain

trip and malcolm hatching a plan to hack the station's computer... oh boy, i can't imagine that'll go well. you two have seen this thing's capabilities, do you really want to find out what kind of weapons it has?? it could rip the warp core right out the ship in five minutes

... why did they go through all the trouble to build that lovely set and then have trip pull a *regular ass air filter* down to get into the vents. girl what

it just teleported them back to the bridge. okay. like putting a spider in a cup to take it outside. hang on MAYWEATHER'S FUCKING DEAD? why him, he didn't even do anything T_T the "he pranked me by telling me a jar of strawberry jam was an alien lifeform" scene is a nice moment of travis/hoshi friendship. just wish it had happened while they were both, you know, alive. he's a main character, i know he'll be revived somehow but still.

ah. it was a clone. i have to wonder what the motive was for kidnapping him, if there was enough data to make a near perfect replica just from the scans, what would they need him for? the transition from pristine bright interiors to the dark, dusty storage room is very nice. calm, robotic voice over the loudspeaker "your vessel will be compromised" vague, almost nonthreatening, very creepy!

so the computer is so small because it's using people like extra processors? huh. it's kind of like a predecessor to the borg. doesn't seem like the most practical solution to this problem, but hey, gave us a neat plot. travis is right, what about all those other people?? y'all just let them get exploded?

and then it ends with it rebuilding itself!! CREEPY!!!! i had wondered how nobody had caught on to the cloning and also tried a rescue mission, but it seems like someone damn well could have and the thing just. Came Back. good episode
