What happens next (a little story fragment i wrote)

Alex stakes out the location from a rooftop with binoculars. He’s wearing more than one jacket for some reason, a knit cap, and black jeans. 

?: I’m not sure why you’re wearing that many layers in the middle of July.

Alex turns around with a start. He sees a thin figure sitting casually on top of the exhaust, adorned in a light hoodie and sweatpants. 

Alex: Who are you?

?: Someone who cares.

Alex: How did you get up here?

?: Same as you. Went up the stairs, through the door.

He gets up from the exhaust and walks towards Alex. 

?: I want to give you some advice for your mission, Alex. When you get to the back room, before grabbing the core, look around in the drawers. You’ll find a hard drive. Don’t tell the higher-ups you have it. Look through it. It’s important. I’ll see you soon after.

Alex: Wait wait wait, how do you know any of this? How do you know who I am or who I work for?

?: Oh, your bosses and I go way back. We don’t always see eye to eye, but their hearts are in the right place. And you, Alex, I’ve taken a liking to you. You’ve got spirit, grit, and style, everything you could want in a professional. 

Alex: Do you plan on explaining anything you’re saying, or are you just going to keep leaving cryptic hints? Who even are you?

?: I know how I sound right now, please believe me that if I went into more depth, I’d probably be taking a massive risk. Here’s all I can tell you: My name is Terry Gardner. Your success is very important to me. Your bosses aren’t telling you the whole story. It’s up to you to decide what happens next. 

Alex: ….Okay, I’ll get the hard drive, if it matters so much to you… Terry. 

Terry: Thanks, I really appreciate it. I’ll be seeing you again soon. 

Terry starts to walk away, and pauses.

Terry: Oh, and one more thing; you don’t need that many jackets. It’s nice out. 

Alex: I mean, you’re wearing a hoodie.

Terry: Yeah, because there’s a light breeze, not a blizzard. See you later, Alex Hayworth.

This'll probably be a part of a larger story eventually. I just really like this dynamic.
