Okay this was like mad over the span of a few days so if it's inconsistent that's why 😵💫
This blog is mainly a rant about my love for the the Mama Mia movie musical. I have absolutely loved this movie since I was super young and I can't honestly express how much I absolutely adore this movie. The actors, the music, the dancing; it's a theater kid's fever dream and being a theater kid I immensely appreciate the significance of the film.
First off, if you've never seen the movie, I strongly suggest you do. It's not all that needed to understand what I'm talking about, but there will be spoilers, so just keep that noted.
Some background, the Mama Mia movie came out in 2008 and featured Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, and Pierce Brosnan and is about Sophie's (Amanda Seyfried) wedding. Dona (Meryl Streep) is Sophie's mom and doesn't know that Sophie invited Donna's 3 exes who she believes one of those is her father. The plot is so stupid yet it is so amazing executed.
Another thing that makes the movie so great; the actors were all drunk for basically the whole movie. The credibility of this statement is questionable because my best friend wifey forever told me this, but she's a fanatic for MM, so I believe her. If you've seen the movie, you can feel the fun they are having even though this movie was like almost 20 yrs ago and they aren't actually there with you, but watching the movie you can't help but smile and sing along. All the actors had such an amazing bond and that made the movie honestly all the more better.
The music and dance also elevated the vibe of the movie, like by 20% (MLP ref >_>) The fact that it's a jukebox musical (its set to music already made that you would likely hear on the radio) set to ABBA is like +100 certified bop. music by ABBA is already Amazon, but when you have THE Meryl Streep singing it is honestly heavenly. (Can I tell I'm a Streep Stan??) Plus the entire ensemble absolutely slayed. They put their whole into every dance and it showed.
Lastly, possibly my fav point, the non-stereotypical gay man representation. (SPOILERS AHEAD) but one of Sophie's "dads" is gay. And the way the actor subtly hinted at it with his actions and expressions was EVERYTHING! especially in the "gimmie gimmie" scene when the guys crash the bachelorette party and like all hell breaks loose LMAO!! Well like in this scene the girls start unbuttoning Harry's (the gay one) shirt and he looks SO uncomfortable. This scene kida solidified that he was gay tbh… BUT at the end, he announces that he's gay to a whole church of people (they're in Greece, so idk if they are a part of a certain religion) but they all were like "okay???" Because there were bigger things happening. I would like to remind u that this movie was made in 2008. FREAKING 2008!!! Long before same-sex marriage was legalized, (it was at the end of the "Bisexual craze" I don't rlly remember the name of it exactly but it was a whole thing in the early/mid 2000) but I just think how perfectly his coming out was executed, how even the small things mattered when furthering his character, and how he was not rlly a stereotypical gay man. This fact really made me love the movie even further
If I've made it this far, I wanna thank u because this was super duper long and it was just a buncha rambling about something I like but I listened and that's super cool of u so thx 💕💕
