when I first saw her
color flooded into my heart
I saw a new world
her words put the greatest poets to shame
her smile shone so bright the sun hid itself in shame
because of her
I could feel
because of her
I believed in love
even across the world
I would feel her presence
she spoke so softly
her words felt so kind
even as she stabbed me
she felt so warm, so bright
there was nothing she could do wrong
even in my dying moments
I wasn't mad
it was a blessing to die at her hands
I'd rather die this way
than live a thousand more lives
the light was peaceful
but then I felt a hand
shake me to reality
as I felt his touch
my glasses broke
the malice in her eyes
shone like a beacon
her words became coarse
her smile faded to memory
a husk of what I saw was left to my sight
tail between my legs
I wept
for it wasn't her I lost
but a part of myself
