πIt's important to have your own life in addition to being in a relationship, because if you're with the person all the time and always interacting, you won't have anything new to contribute to it. Also it may just be best to ask the person if they like you, otherwise you might be putting all this emotional energy into something that may or not be there. And a "maybe" followed by a "no" can be even more disappointing than a flat out "no" so make sure to get your facts straight so you don't get hurt too badly. If yes, make sure to still take your time to get to know eachother, don't go steady when you're still getting to know eachother because you might find out you don't like the person after all! Thats my five cents, I wish you the best of luck.
