It had been snowing on and off for the past couple of weeks. Rey had wanted a white Christmas and now it looked like she would get your wish. Rey were thankful that both she and her boyfriend, Kylo, were remote workers. At least that way neither of them had to worry about getting to an office. Their apartment was big enough that they had an office which they both shared. It had all they could ask for – a decent sized desk each and an Internet router that allowed them to use both wired Internet and WiFi.
Now here they both
were, on Christmas Eve, knowing they now had two weeks to themselves.
The Christmas tree was up in its usual spot, with a handful of
presents underneath it. The white fairy lights gently twinkled from
within the branches. Rey was sat on the sofa, looking out of the
balcony windows, watching the snow fall. It was heavier now and would
no doubt be fairly deep by the morning. Kylo emerged from the kitchen
area, carrying two mugs of hot chocolates. Rey gratefully took her
mug as Kylo sat down on the sofa next to her.
Their day was spent
just enjoying each other’s company. They watched a movie together –
12 Rounds 3: Lockdown. It was a silly action movie that was a
favourite of theirs. Rey got the random urge to cook and bake, whilst
tacky Christmas movies and shows played on the TV, as background
noise. The two of them spent the evening enjoying the food Rey had
made, along with a glass or two of wine.
Christmas Day was a
quiet and lazy one. Breakfast was a slow affair. Coffee, fruit, baked
goods. They opened the gifts they had received. Rey loved the ‘ugly’
Christmas sweater Kylo had gifted her. They spent the morning playing
a round of backgammon. Kylo knew he was rubbish at the game and could
never beat Rey, but it was fun attempting to. Lunch was beef fillet,
‘Marmite’ mash potato and roasted parsnips. It was something Kylo
had wanted to try out. It was their first Christmas together in their
apartment; and Kylo wanted them to create their own memories and
traditions. One of them was cooking Christmas dishes that were a
little different from the usual turkey dinner, Christmas pudding and
the like. Rey dragged Kylo out for a walk after their Christmas
dinner.
As they readied for
bed that night, they both agreed that they’d had a wonderful day
together.
