Daydreamers

For just a moment, I want you to think about something in your life that you take for granted. Not just anything... A universal, omnipresent facet of life... That is, your consciousness. A human's time in this world is inherently limited. That is the meaning of mortality. Is it a waste, then, when your consciousness is cut short, like a fire being blown out before it can light a forest ablaze, as you lose focus and drift away into an ocean of slumber? Though I am ever fascinated by the world that I find myself in as my cognizance returns to me, I often wonder of that which only exists when I am unconscious. Dreams... The world between worlds... We often enter such a realm without intention, without awareness, and even when our vigilance returns to us and we realize that we have parted from reality, the sensations that the mind creates can feel eerily similar to that which we sense in reality. I suppose it is not entirely inscrutable, given that what we perceive as reality is in truth naught but the result of our mind processing the world through our senses, so it is only natural then that such a world, would, generated from sensory information with no clear origin in reality, would be capable of being constructed by our minds.

Our understanding of the world comes from our internal world. You could say that our understanding of the world and the internal world are one and the same. That understanding is, by principle, separate from the external world. I wonder, then... If you were to exist in a dream so similar to reality that the sensory information processed by your brain would be indistinguishable from that which is processed in reality... How would you tell the difference between a dream and reality? The fact that we can wake up in the morning with the intrinsic ability to differentiate between the day prior, the day of, and the dream that separates the two... I believe that is something that we take for granted. If your mind were to create an illusionary reality in which the world seemed to be the exact same, it would be impossible for you to realize. Though the external world would be different, the information entering and facilitating your internal world is the same. Therefore a perfect replica would be created, and you would be none the wiser... You might say something like, "That's stupid. A dream is a dream! You'll just wake up eventually." ...But I wonder, is that really that case? Is waking up the only thing that can separate an indistinguishable dream from reality? What if, that dream were to go on forever? What if there was no waking up? Would that dream become reality? Could you say reality, as it is now, is just the same as a dream already? ...Say, how do you know you aren't dreaming right now...? Keheheh, I was just messing with you! If you were to find yourself in an endless dream, it wouldn't take even a moment for me to rescue you. It is my responsibility as a future lord of darkness to protect those under my control, after all.

i actually really struggle with telling the difference between dreams and the waking world. it takes me hours to realize the events of my dreams did not happen in real life, and without the help of the people around me I would have alot more trouble. kinda just a me problem tho
