immediately after hitting play we are given a scene of archer trying to be friendly by inviting reed to have breakfast with him and reed just sitting there like a shaking chihuahua. hilarious but also excruciating to watch. reed has had an entire season to improve his social skills and it just has not happened. the character of all time. certified lieutenant reed moment
geez, the scene of the mine's anchor stabbing through reed's leg was gruesome. why did it have another one just ready to go anyway.. "what's more important, my leg or your ship?" very interesting line.. not 'our ship' or 'the ship', 'your ship'. reed still considers himself separate from enterprise as a whole and yet he still jumped at the chance to risk his life to preserve it. Interesting
oh shit these are the romulans? that would make this humanity's first encounter with them, right? neat
"i was trained not to fraternize with superior officers" "from my point of view, that kind of socializing has no place on a starship" "i don't really have any hobbies" CERTIFIED LIEUTENANT REED MOMENT. he is so Weird about people. i appreciate that
reed's only disclosed information about himself when he thinks he's about to die. in shuttlepod one, he told trip about never being able to get close to anyone. here he's telling archer about deep fears and how he's disappointed his family legacy. his character makes so much sense now. i am rotating this conversation in my mind
disconnecting the air tank so archer has to plug him into his.. i am drawing Two parallels, one between trip trying to jump out the airlock in shuttlepod one and one with the one voyager episode where b'elanna and tom had to share an air tank after one of the EV suits broke. i don't think these have any significance but i am Noticing
using shuttlepod doors as shields to protect from an explosion is the kind of wacky thing that would only happen on enterprise and i'm here for it. my only nitpicky complaint is that reed and archer were still able to stand on the piece of hull once it detached from the ship. i had assumed that they were able to do so while it was still attached because of the ship's artificial gravity. maybe the EV suits have magnets in the feet, but it looked like they just jumped off without resistance, so that wouldn't make sense. anyhow, good episode, good character moments. i wish we'd seen more of the romulans but i guess we have the rest of the franchise for that
