Hamburger steak (HAMBĀGU ハンバーグ) recipe!

long awaited hamburger steak recipe is here!!!! i promise that i'll start posting recipes more regularly hopefully!! ^^ this recipe will cover hamburger steak and the sauce, though you can still follow the recipe without having to make the sauce ^^ hamburger steak can be surved with steamed veggies (brocoli or carrots imo!) or steamed rice :3

Ingredients needed:

steak

♡ 1 1/3 pound of ground beef

♡ 1 egg

♡ 1/3 cup panko bread crumbs (i used panko breadcrumbs, though you can use breadcrumbs of any kind!)

♡  2 1/2 tablespoons milk (or milk substitute if you're lactose intolerant!)

♡ 2 teaspoons ketchup

♡ 1 teaspoon Worcestshire sauce

♡ 3/4 teaspoon salt

♡ 1/2 teaspoon pepper

♡ 1/4 cup alcohol free red wine (for steaming the patty)

sauce

♡ 1/3 cup ketchup

♡ 3 tablespoons worcestshire sauce

♡ 3 tablespoons water or stock (of any kind! i personally used beef stock)

♡  2 Tablespoons butter

♡ 2 teaspoons sugar

now, let's begin~!

In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, milk, ketchup, worcestshire, salt, pepper, and garlic, mix well till it becomes a smooth texture.

now it's time to form the steaks, lightly oil your hands for easier time shaping ^^, divide the patties into four sections and form tight ovals

Lightly oil a large pan and heat over medium-high heat. Add each hamburger steak and cook on each side for 3-4 mins, or when you decide it's alright. Add the red wine and cover to steam until the steaks are fully cookes (interal temp of abt 160 degrees F). Once finished, remove and set aside,

time to make the sauce! using the same pan, reduce the heat to low and add the ingredients for the sauce, stir until the mixture starts to bubble. Once done, turn off heat and serve with the steaks.

EXtra tips!!

you can opt to use a mixture of ground beef and pork, keep the ground beef to 60% for optimal flavour (imo) but if you want a beefier flavour, just go 100% ground beef ^^

When forming the steaks, you can remove air pockets by tossing the patty back and forth in your hands

if preffered, before putting in the sauce ingredients, you may wipe off excess grease from the pan, for a thinner sauce, add water, increase the amount of water a tablespoon at a time and add extra salt and sugar to your liking. ^^

leftover hamburger steaks should be placed in airtight containers for up to 3 days :)
