Surgically removed - poem

Surgeon, doctor, put me under

Surgically remove my heart

Leave my other organs, please

But I’ll let you keep that part of me

Surgically remove me from your life

Like a cyst you have to cut away

Make sure I don’t grow or spread

Or else I’d reach your heart one day

Surgeon, lover, merciful killer,

Surgically clean your reputation

Doctor, tell me what drug I should take

To clear this nasty infestation

Surgical needle and anaesthetic,

My surgeon goes under, barely alive

Don’t leave me yet, you still have my heart!

But you’re gone, and with you, my chance to survive

Waiting room. A hole in my chest.

A world where my surgeon is gone

They tell me you’ve made it through

The surgery can carry on

Surgeon, stitch me back together

With a gaping hole in my chest

Nobody will have my heart again

Not they way you do, you removed it best
