There was so much that I enjoyed about this film. From the voice acting to the character designs, to the music.
Although the movie was not perfect, and I felt that it was a little rushed, it was overall enjoyable and very fun to watch. I will be getting the movie once it comes out on digital and I'll probably watch it again several times.
Now, on to the movie. Jack Black's voice acting was stupendous. You can tell that he put a lot of love into his role and he put effort into voice acting and not just reading out the lines.
The animation was very good and I loved all the character designs. WHile still having the marks of Illumination studios it still had the hallmarks of the Mario franchise.
The story was simple but effective. It was like any Mario game and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Bowser wants to marry Princess Peach and he ends up going on a rampage to impress her.
The callbacks to the games were also enjoyable. From the original Mario game, to Mario Kart, to even including the Tanooki Mario and Cat Mario powerups, there was something to look out for in every scene of the movie.
The humor was also very enjoyable, it had the whole theater laughing while I was there.
Although I wish that the movie had Luigi also exploring the Mushroom Kingdom instead of being trapped for the entire time, his interactions with other characters made it worth it and his relationship with his brother is cute and heartwarming.
The ending where Mario and Luigi were fighting Bowser with the star powerup was also very fun and hype.
At this point I'm just rambling lol. Overall, I felt that the movie could have been slightly better in terms of pacing, but it was very fun and I will be watching it again. My score is a 7/10.
