before i start i just wanna say that i enjoy true crime and i listen to podcasts and videos on youtube about im not trying hate on any single person or youtber lmao or anyone who enjoys true crime i just wanna point out some things that i think are kinda weird
i feel like when some people talk about true crime especially in murders lots of the time there is a lot of focus on the on the perpetrator in this case the murderer instead of the victims, lots of the title of videos, newspapers and general media i have consumed start with like xxx murder is on the lose and give them a fancy or catchy nickname like the 'zodiac killer' i dont get me wrong im not blaming youtubers for this im mostly blaming media like the press i mean it does get our attention right? so like i can see whats the appeal of giving them catchy name but like sometimes it buts me off cuz why are we calling them the 'gold state killer' like shouldnt we be giving most our attention to the person that died. another thing to add to this i feel like when these things are reported on i feel like most people focus on how someone could commit thta crime and the back story on the murderer rather than the actual backstory on the victim. i do think criminology and psychology is an interesting topic however i feel like the person who has died is almost a secondary idea its never the main idea, it makes me feel weird its really scary as on the internet you can see people idolising these people who comit these crimes. well im not saying people who watch true crime support these people but its scary to know that this is what it could lead too.
another point is that i feel like in lots of the true crime youtuber space i feel like a lot people in that community and make those videos are really desentised (i dont how to spell that word sorry) to the point where im seeing people doing mukbangs (which is where people eat alot of food) or like put on makeup while talking about someone getting ripped from limb to limb like??? people just accept it like imagine if your daughter died and you saw someone on youtube start talking about their fav eyeshadow colour while talking about your daughters death like i feel thats a bit weird or maybe thats just me?? im not saying all people do this are trying to intentionally be insensitive i highly doubt that i just feel like doing that puts a bad taste in my mouth, i think pople need to be more aware of it cuz i dont think i would like that if i saw some random perosn on the interet do that

I agree the only YouTubers that do a pretty good job are (in my opinion) the Rotten Mango podcast they tell the victim's pov and families and all and "a regarder après minuit" She is French tho and honestly I'm surprised they are not more because the others contribute to the romanticisation of criminals more than spreading awareness

I completly agree. Sometimes in documentaries and stiff where they talk about serial killers they make them seem smarter and more "cool" I guess than they actually are. And yk, if killers hear these things that are said abt them, like how they are so smart and charismatic and whatnot, plus the cool nicknames and people that hype them up, then they feel powerful and boosts up their ego. And most dont feel bad about what they did and instead feel like they're cool or something, but in reality they are just shit humans. That's all there is to it.
And when people talk about them, it really feels like they show the victims no respect whatsoever. Like, some people describe in detail what those poor victims have been trough and its just....awful. They're not respecting them at all and that way they hurt the viewers and listeners too, with all those graphic descriptions.
I find it interesting to learn about killers and to think about the psychology that goes with them, like what made them do such things. But some people really hype them up too much |:(
Like bro, they killed people, humans with their own lifes, their own interests and dreams, and they had to go trough such awful deaths, paying respect to them is the least you can do, if u talk about them and who killed them.
Killers should be treated like the awful human beings they are, not idolizing them or some shit like that.
Damn, got a little serious there, sorry abt that

big agree. i havent seen podcasts but the attitude that youtubers tend to treat this stuff with is really disgusting, like people have DIED you are not talking about a movie you are talking about horrible things that have happened IN REAL LIFE why do you obviously have no respect for the victims and their families
