Roaring 20's

The roaring 20s were a dramatic social, economic and political change. Many Americans moved to big cities and the  wealth in America doubled.

People had extra money and could spend it on nice clothing. Young women wore flapper dresses, had short bobbed hair, and drank. There was less pressure to be ladylike. The roaring 20s were also called the jazz age because jazz was developed and became popular. People wanted to dance. The Charleston, the cake walk, the black bottom and the flea hop were some popular dances. The younger generations loved the freedom of

dancing.

Along with jazz, the radio was also developed. By the end of the 1920’s, there were more than 12 million radios in households around America. One of the most important things in the 20’s was the automobile. At the beginning of the 20s, automobiles were an affordable luxury, but near the end, they were almost a necessity.

The end of the roaring 20’s came on October 29, 1929. Known as the Stock Market crash or Wall street crash, it began a new age, the great depression. Millions of stocks became worthless and wiped out millions of investors. The Great depression was the worst economic downturn in the history of the industrialized world and it lasted from 1929 to 1939.
