"Did you know that the first documented records of systematic astronomical observations originate from the Babylonian civilization in Mesopotamia, all the way back in 1000 B.C.E.? I wonder... Far before then, far before humans could even dream of observing the sky through a telescope... What did they think of the grandiose night sky above them? Of the tenebrous dome that endlessly replaces the endless azure firmament that holds endless possibilities? As they observed the millions of shimmering stars that dot the atramented canvas of space like raindrops resting atop a black umbrella, what were they thinking? Personally... I find it hard to believe that those lights in the sky could have appeared as anything other than lustrous embodiments of the presence of the Divine... To one who existed before the radiant light of science pierced the obfuscating veil of of ignorance with its inexorable truth, life could could only be made sense of through the lens of theology. But, I wonder... Did the humans of the ancient times dream of worlds other than their own?"
"If someone like me... Were to exist so long ago... Would I dream the same dream? Of an existence beyond my own, in a realm made up of an endless sea of clouds, where the sunlight beams down unobstructed, like an aromatic mist, smelling sweetly, accompanied by droplets of dew that could land on your tongue, tasting doubly so? A place where the rain forms an endless pool, immeasurable and fathomless, so that all who reside may drink until their hearts were full? An existence that lies beyond comprehension, beyond imagination, beyond dreams, and beyond language... If such a place existed, wouldn't it be wonderful if we could reach that it in concert?"
"But, such an emplacement surely couldn't be reached. If someone were to create an existence like that, wouldn't they wish for all humanity, nay, all life to conjugate there as well? There's been countless moments where I've thought that... The only explanation... The only reasoning... Well... They musn't want anyone else there, in such a pristine, perfect place. It's akin to risk aversion... The path to Hell is paved with good intentions. Humans, while inherently good, are destined to bring ruin wherever they reside. In that case, I can't blame anyone for closing off such a magnificent plane from being accessed by others."
"Despite that... I can't help but think to myself... That I wish that person would make an exception, just for me. Just for a few, select individuals... I know it's selfish, but I still desire the opportunity to see that world, if only for a moment. Such is the hubris of humanity, I suppose. But to deny such hubris is surely tantamount to ignorance. To self-erasure. To self-destruction. A human is a human. We are flawed, yet we are beautiful. It is the flawed pieces that make our beauty all the more profound, and our beautiful fragments that make our flaws all the more tragic. I've felt this way before, but it's been so difficult to put into words... Ah! I'm sorry, I got lost rambling again... It isn't exactly easy to talk to anyone else here... You're good listeners, you know? Please, when the chance presents itself to the both of you in the future, come visit me again. I'll be okay in the meantime, so don't worry about me."
