I went to the circus for the first time today (yipeeee!!)
I was under the impression that, if you're going to a circus you should look the part so I kinda rocked up in Ryan Ross circa AFYCSO clothing and makeup... upon arriving I realised that probably wasn't necessary. I was also reminded that circuses are in fact for children as pretty much the entire audience consisted of them.
(this was legit me)
Firstly, I was assured there would be no animals (which was one of the reasons I refused to go to the circus) but aside from that, I had pretty much no knowledge of what was to come - I was kind of imagining the old-timey circuses with insanely high seats inside a tent. AND it was in a tent, a pretty cool one with white and blue stripes. but the seats were reasonably low to the ground which was reassuring cuz I hate heights with a passion.
Heading into the place I was kind of freaking out cuz the posters had like a traditional and mildly creepy face-painted clowns and I swear it gave me like a new-founded fear of clowns which I've never had before - but turns out there as only 1 clown and he was dressed pretty normally; no face paint or anything, just big shoes and silly accessories. He was pretty much used in the intervals between the acts to entertain the children while they set up for the next one.
(pretty much the exact posters - except a little more maniacal).
The show had a few things which made me giggle - first was the fact that it started with Caravan (from Whiplash - it may be an actual song but thats what i know it from) and it actually took me by [pleasant] surprise. Another thing which killed me was when all of the lights by Kanye started playing... such a memeable song.
The acts themselves were pretty astounding!! There was a lot of neon juggling (balls and bowling pins), some hoola hoop stuff, lots of acrobatics and some thrill-seeking acts (idk how else to put them). One of the acrobats dressed as spider man which was pretty fun and the kids were really enjoying that (including my little sister).
One of the acts that truly gave me anxiety was the motorcyle cage - 'the globe of death!'
These things freak me the balls out but the worse bit had to be when one of the women got in there with flaming sticks and handed it to him as he drove around her head. Some people do not value their lives stg.

Another one which gave me criminal anxiety was these two WHEELS:
See, I have no idea what you actually call these things but it was basically these mesh wheels which two dudes got inside - UNTIL one of the dudes got out and started doing tricks on top of the thing (keep in mind these are like HIGH in the air.) He even started skipping and blindfolded himself and everything jeez louise... it was nerve wracking to say the least.
During the interval it started raining cats and doggings i'm telling ya... raining hailstones which I later found out.. but damn the actual SOUND of those things hitting the top of the tent was like ear shattering it was actually insane.
Despite the anxiety and getting drenched in the rain, there is truly nothing better than men in spandex and women in pretty dresses!
