the prodigal social medium returns

it's so bizarre to see my childhood and early adolescent experience become trendy again. in all honesty, myspace was so important to my development as a social creature, and we all took it so for granted while it was around. pre-tumblr (and certainly pre-tumblr's collapse), myspace was the safe space for people like me, without being so fringe that there weren't that many users. i can still remember migrating from vampirefreaks to myspace and bringing several of my online friends with me. tom was too good for the tech industry. zuck and dorsey are craven, cynical imitations. every social medium since myspace has set out to capture its glory, charm, and community and no one has gotten close. perhaps the closest was tumblr, but we all know what happened there.

so, it's good to be back. i understand this is basically like an art project, rather than a serious attempt at recreating myspace. but it's nice to reminisce a little bit. strange to reminisce, i guess, about some of the worst years of my life. if i could bottle the feelings though... --
