Tokisha : Ser Perra Esta De Moda

TOKISHA APPRECIATION

"Ser Perra Esta De Moda"

She's raunchy, divisive, unfiltered, and unapologetic.

Tokisha is a 27 year old Dominican Rapper from Santo Domingo who has gained popularity and a cult like following through her controversial lyrics, explosive energy, and explicit sexual imagery. Many people hate her and others are obsessed (me)

She oozes sex, liberation, and AU-DA-CI-TY.

She is a Bisexual rapper who's been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community and has used her platform to advocate for queer rights and visibility. Her lyrics often have themes of female empowerment, social justice, and personal growth. In her music and public appearances, she often addresses issues like homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination.

In her song "La Vaina Es Así," Tokisha raps about challenges faced by queer people living in a society where we are marginalized and discriminated against.

She is known for doing collaborations with a bunch of artists, a lot of which are high profile.
For example, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Rosalia, even Maddona. (And more).
Tokisha's music often has lyrics celebrating queer love and relationships.
While promoting queer visibility and representation in the media during 2021, she was featured in a campaign by the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Tourism aimed at promoting the country as a safe and welcoming destination for LGBTQIA+ travelers.

Her music is can be empowering, but it's sparked a lot of controversy and criticism. She's been accused of objectifying women and contributing to a culture of hyper-sexualization. But others have also defended her right to express herself freely and argue that her music is a reflection of her own experiences and perspectives.

Her music also has some political undertones. Many of her songs touch on issues of social justice or inequality. She's not afraid to speak out against corruption and injustice in the Dominican Republic. Her outspokenness has earned her praise and heavy criticisms, with some people accusing her of being too political and others applauding her for using her platform to raise awareness of important issues. People accuse her of being too provocative or attention-seeking, but I see her as fearless and disruptive.

Despite everything, she is an exciting and influential voice that is quickly gaining attention in the Urbano Dominican music scene. She is an absolute force to be reckoned with. Her uncompromising refusal to conform to conventional norms have made her a symbol of audacious empowerment and unique individuality.

She gets into a lot of trouble, and I hope she keeps doing so.

Gotta love an artist who shakes things up! I like her. Since my Spanish skills are just starting to form (like kindergarten lvl lol) I had to look up the lyrics and they were pretty great. I'll look into more music by her and snow tha product who I'm now utterly obsessed with.

I had fun making this little music post, I might make one about Snow later too.
Also, don't worry about not knowing the lyrics cuz this kind of music uses a lot of slang and slang can be regional. Remember she is from the Dominican Republic and i'm positive your classes probably didn't cover slang.

You totally should :) and thank you! I'm not even in a class lol I just study on my own with YouTube and just hope for the best but you're right, I know very little slang. I'll look into it more when I have a better grasp on things.
