maybe this is just my personal opinion but i think it's because the today's web got so so much fast it's overwhelming, back on the old days things seemed to be more slow and kinda "pacific"? everything looked more innocent. Internet was something new and different, ppl usually used it to make friends and meet new people, today it's so normal, it's not like the "cool nice" thing it was back then, almost everyone has it basically, and they use it to attack others and cancel ppl now.
what i want to say is: today the internet has too much info for us to process, so we want to go back to the slow and calm days of old web, just as if it was a break

For me it's because I'm sick of ads, it's nostalgic, it's aesthetically pleasing and it's a nice place to escape to when everything becomes too much.

I just prefer an internet where companies aren't in control of everything, and ads weren't top priorities for websites. Websites that were actually made for creators rather than to profit off them yk? (but I also like the aesthetics and neighbourhood feel X9 )
!!!! YESS this too, nowadays everything spins around money and making more of it, it's just sickening, things were so simple b4, no ads just fun and simple stuff :(

I personally do it 4 nostalgic reasons :P I like 2 go back 2 a time where I was happier n stuff but I do agree wit yuu abt the modern web being a lot 2 process. I find that the web these days is very toxic.
yeaah, the nostalgia is a gud reason too!! bcuz i was born in an era that the "trend" was kinda dying and didn't make part of it fully, i always want to comeback there too, it's sooo comforting for me <\3
