expectations (poem)

a life stands still

poetry doesn’t pay the bills

time waits for no man

no time for not knowing where you stand

the expectations of adulthood

a crushing weight universally understood

pushed into the deep end

without time to comprehend

juvenile delinquents and high school dropouts

already instilled with self doubts

it seems they were doomed from the start

in therapists offices getting their minds pulled apart

the world cares not for your struggles

gripping childhood comfort with white knuckles

the world will keep spinning on its axis

easy in theory, hard in practice

time waits for no man

so you better get it together, kid
