poem

your (imagined) secret resentment

 /

familiarity breeds contempt

but you know me

a breed of a different kind

i’m always on the fence

 /

you’ll keep my feelings entertained

you’re well versed in suppression

so we’ll keep resentment a secret

until your justified disdain

 /

throwing stones through glass houses

mine clearer than yours

you won’t hold me like a lover does

when the walls come crashing down

 /

and the cat’s out of the bag

i’m a chip off the old block

i won’t deny it anymore

i’m just like my dad

 /

the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree

so every day i live in fear

that i will do to you

what he did to me
