GARBAGE (SELF TITLED ALBUM) REVIEW

GARBAGE (SELF TITLED ALBUM- 1995)

this band has some of the coolest takes on grunge/riot grrl music. it's funk infused, it's got a congruent, fuzzy sound all the way through the album, and it has a unique, grungy yet smooth feeling. I'm not the best with words, and in absolutely not a professional writer, but you should really give this album a try!!

ever feel like a mysterious hotty prowling through the streets in a world of dirt and pink? Garbage is what it feels like to fall in slow-motion while being the hottest thing at the party.

Garbage hits you instantly with its neo-funk-grunge, filling your ears with the sweet vibrations of the lead singers sweet, feminine voice. her vocal performance seems to only enhance the vibe this album gives you with its distinct sound.

the chord progressions used in some of these tracks are unexpected and perfectly Garbage. somehow every track has this perfect dystopian yet silky vibe, and it's addictive. I thoroughly enjoyed every track on this album! of course not ever song is 10000% perfect to my tastes, but I digress. this album gave them a breakthrough into the public eye with the lead single "only happy when it rains" and hoo boy is it the perfect example of Garbage's formula. tracks like Vow, fix me now, girl don't come, and supervixen were my absolute faves and hit the hardest out of any of the tracks on this project.

I've listened to the 25th anniversary edition and I'm pretty sure a bunch of the later tracks like alien sex fiend were cut from the original release of Garbage's self titled album, and I can see why. not ever song is meant to make it past the cutting room floor, and although I enjoy alien sex fiend and subhuman, they sound far more atmospheric and different compared to the rest of the album. no complaints though, despite them being weaker than other tracks, I still adore them. and kick my ass? phenomenal semi acoustic ending to this album that contrasts the opening, supervixen, very well.
I give this album an 8/10 overall!! def deserves a 10/10 on the sound design. more bands need to mess with stereo mixing/guitar tones like Garbage has!
