I organized this list by year! most of my cds are albums from the 90s. :)
Album: Generation Terrorists Artist: Manic Street Preachers Year: 1992 Genre: Rock Notes: found this in a used cd store in the bargain bin! still has the original advertisement sticker on it and the booklet (which has some really iconic photos of Richie). and the cd itself is pink :,) Only downside is the case is super busted up, but that's why it was in the bargain bin. weirdly i also found my other Manic's cd at the same store in the same bin 6 months later and that store is very out of town, which leads me to-
Album: Gold Against the Soul Artist: Manic Street Preachers Year: 1993 Genre: Rock Notes: like I said, found in the same store months later! hoping i can find The Holy Bible next time i'm there. also very busted case but thats okay. also has booklet still but i think it's a bit less of a cool design in this booklet.
Album: Last Splash Artist: The Breeders Year: 1993 Genre: Rock/Indie Notes: i know some count The Breeders as riot grrl. i personally do not though, since i feel like they just get lumped in to the genre for being women in the 90s. no longer have the original case cause it go lost when i totalled my car over a year ago :,( but it resides in a funny little red clear case.
Album: Star Artist: Belly Year: 1993 Genre: 90s indie Notes: one of my absolute favorite 50c bin finds. became my repeat album summer of '21. so good. case doesnt have a lid tho :/ so i wanna get it a little purple or green clear one
Album: pest control Artist: Devilhead Year: 1996 Genre: grunge Notes: not much to say. pretty generic grunge album tbh but i still enjoy it as background sounds.
Album: No Code Artist: Pearl Jam Year:1996 Genre: grunge Notes: probably the only pearl jam album i seriously enjoy for some reason (i still enjoy them, but i haven't gotten super into Pearl Jam cause I'm not a huge grunge person). this one came with a bunch of polaroid copies! the album art and layout on this one is super super cool. even has the old fan club mailing address on it
Album: recovering the satellites Artist: Counting Crows Year: 1996 Genre: rock/indie (? that's what i consider them to be. just sorta general 90s alt) Notes: MY FAVORITE COUNTING CROWS ALBUM! listen to it next time ur going through a breakup, trust me. got it in great condition. very intact with the booklet and all that
Album: Camofleur Artist: Gastr Del Sol Year: 1998 Genre: folk Notes: not terribly exciting. good study or quiet time album
Album: This Desert Life Artist: Counting Crows Year: 1999 Genre: rock/indie Notes: ugh. second favorite from Counting Crows. genuinely love this "dad rock" band. such fun lyrics. has a hidden track! got this from a friend who has a free cd bin at her college and used to snag ones she knew i liked out :,)
Album: The Hot Rock Artist: Sleater-Kinney Year: 1999 Genre: riot grrl Notes: came with a super cool promo flyer for a bunch of other albums coming out around the same time ish. not my favorite Sleater-Kinney album but i still love everything by them so its very nice to have this one.
Album: Frigid Forms Sell Artist: Milemarker Year: 2002 Genre: y2k hardcore Notes: bought this one without having any clue what it was. very noisy very loud very good for solo bedroom moshing
Album: Music in the Deuce Artist: Various - mixed cd by j. brian and tiffany Year: 2002 Genre: mixed Notes: weird lil mailing list mix cd! super fun lineup of what these 2 strangers listened to in 2002, honestly one of my favorite cds i own. should i post a tracklist?
Album: i wish that i could see you soon Artist: Herman Dune Year: 2008 Genre: folk Notes: kinda odd. nice soft album. got it with the '93 bargain bin manics cd purely bc it has blue sasquatch art on it that i thought was funny
Album: Twin Fantasy (mirror to mirror AND face to face set) Artist: Car Seat Headrest Year: 2011 (m2m), 2016 (f2f) Genre: 2010s indie Notes: one of the few in my collection i actually bought full price. i love this album very dearly. includes insanely beautiful artwork by Hojin Stella Jung. hard to get this as a set. love love love
Album: TV ep Artist: Scarves Year: 2013 Genre: emo/indie (has midwest emo vibes ya know? Notes: only 3 songs, found at a random music store in seattle when i visited a long time ago. comes in the kind of cd case you'd put your own mix in in 2007 with a little home-printed cover. super cute. very good tbh. loves it
Album: Warped Tour '15 Artist: various Year: 2015 Genre: emo/metal/general warped tour bands Notes: bought this at my first warped tour as a kid! while i never got to see the golden age of warped for myself i am still so so glad i got to go in middle school (with my dad cause i had very few friends lolz). saw BVB, PVRIS, and (part of) PTV at this! while i don't listen to any of them often anymore it was seriously the first place i ever felt totally cool with being myself at. got thrown in a pit when i was too young and too small and was so quickly helped by the people around me. really love that i have something physical to remember the day by since i gave away all my merch from then (which i now regret)
Album: Interloper Artist: Momma Year: 2018 Genre: 2010s indie Notes: go to study album. very soft very sweet
okay! thats all of em! i had to leave a few out as to not give away my location (i have a few from bands in my local scene and do not need y'all to know what city i live in lolz). i'm sure this is a little boring to most people but i like knowing what i have and documenting it as the collection grows. i'm trying to get my hands on some mcr cd's by the end of the year (which i defo cant thrift) and hoping to add more riot grrl and goth bands to my collection to better reflect what i am usually listening to on streaming.
any cds you're looking for? do you collect cds? does anyone really anymore? i love my cd player its so nice to have physical copies of music that doesn't cost an arm and a leg like records do
