Hello little ones, first of all, I want to mention that this isnt a supernatural thing, but a REAL thing that I discovered yesterday. It is called the Bystander Effect. I putted it in the Dreams and the Supernatural category because it is really strange and almost look like a supernatural activity.
Well, the Bystander effect is a social psychological theory that explains why individuals are less likely to offer help to a victim in an emergency situation when other people are present. Almost like a sociolpath. I'll give y'all an exemple: Imagine that a person witnesses a robbery in front of them, that person has 100% responsibility to report it to the authorities, correct? Now, according to the theory, if the situation happens, and the number of witnesses to the robbery is greater, the probability of the crime being reported drops dramatically. This happens because people think that someone else will report. The Kitty Genovese case is the most famous example of the bystander effect. The case involved the brutal murder of a young woman named Catherine "Kitty" Genovese in Queens, New York in 1964.
Now you can think, "Well, it will only happen when a terrible thing happens, right?" The answer is no.
You know when your teacher ask a question for the whole class and no one answer it? Thats the bystander effect. The percentage of chance of someone helping in the bystander effect can vary depending on the situation and the number of people present. In a well-known study, when bystanders were alone, 75% helped when they thought a person was in trouble. However, when a group of six people were together, only 31% helped.
