the sacrifice of isaac and the duty of the father

did isaac forgive his father? could he? what could be said in the face of something like that— such an almost-tragedy, yet halted. did isaac have to move on with his life knowing that in the face of god he would come second, always, that his father was willing to gut him upon the altar of sacrifice- he who had raised isaac from birth- upon the command of an unseen voice? murder for salvation, paradise at the cost of your son. how could he walk home, hiking down the mountain abraham led him up, knowing that it had never mattered at all?

patriarch of israel, isaac, did you raise your own sons knowing you would never do the same as your father? was it a quiet rebellion of love, of protection? would you damn yourself so that they may never feel cold altar stone under their backs? did you hold them, isaac, and love them beyond any god or man may ever challenge?

is that not the duty of the father?
