An alternate universe where:
Gorillaz is a cartoon Network cartoon from the mid 2000s, featuring a slightly dysfunctional fictional band.
2-D - Our lead singer, with 2 holes for eyes. We don't know exactly how he got them, but he can still see, just with blurred vision.
Murdoc - Our basist who is not the most nice guy but has his moments. It was stated that he made a deal with the devil to get a good band, which made his skin turn green.
Russel - Our drummer (who was originally kidnapped into the band by Murdoc but decided to stay), enjoyed fashion, and he is possessed by his ghost friend Del. (Based off of and voiced by the real-life rapper Del the Funky Homosapien.)
Noodle - Our guitarist and the youngest member of the group. She arrived in a crate at the Kong studios and is only 10 years old. In season one, she mostly speaks Japanese and has very few English lines. She's seen learning English and playing with Del.
We also see that they film at their haunted location, "Kong Studios."
The series featured them filming music videos while trying to get along, running into occasional mishaps, and overall learning to be a band. As the series would continue, it would become a lot darker in tone, the characters would also undergo design changes (like Noodle becoming a teenager and Murdoc becoming more green); and there would be many different shifts in music styles. The series ran for 3 seasons before being canceled before it could have its 4th. This is why the ending to the show is somewhat melancholy: in the previous season, noodle has gone missing and so has Russel (however, it is implied that Russel did it by his own means), 2-D and Murdoc are not getting along well, and there is a very heavy environmental message. (The show did have many messages being anti-war and similar things as well.)
The show ends with all the members finding themselves deciding to split up but we do see a small clip at the end that they got back together, presumably years later. One of the commercials/bumpers that took place during the Cartoon Network City era featured the characters meeting up with the power puff girls for a split second. (Ace from the green gang seems to be chatting with Murdoc, while Noodle, 2-D, and Russel play with the girls.) Despite its rushed finale, the show left a huge impact on many Cartoon Network fans. The creator is still active and draws comics and concepts of what it would have been like. (There is even an album that has the unreleased songs from this fourth season.)
