Accidentally an asshole (vent/rant)

Today I fucked up by- Jk this isn’t Reddit, I’m not doing that. So, over the past couple of days I’ve been trying to figure out how to reject a specific person gently, and I asked a few people for advice. I was asking a trusted teacher how to reject someone during home room and the other kids asked who it was, and because we all talk about everything in there all the time (we don’t share what happens in there, it’s supposed to be a safe space) I told them. Now the kid thinks I just went about telling everyone that he asked me out and I feel bad because I was just trying to let him down gently and I think I may have hurt his reputation and pride.
