I think it was night when we first met because if the sun was shining when you first smiled at me, even 3,000 miles away I’d be blinded to anything else. I wouldn’t be able to tell you from her, and I'd start orbiting you instead. If I didn’t have so much to do the next day I would've left the house right at dawn to fall at your doorstep by sunset (a month and a half later, whatever). Over highway and dirt road, river and mountain, day, night, without food, without plan. And battered, and broken, and bruised, I would fall at your doorstep and smile at you, a poor imitation of the idea that you put in my head of yours. Bright as sunshine, shimmering as snow, calm as the rain, and inspiring as the storm. But that's not what happened, much to my dismay. Nothing so simple, nothing so easy. I've walked every road and followed every trail and always ended further than where I started. So what I've followed every road, every beaten path, I'll start following every river. Off the beaten path, over smooth rock and fertile soil. Over white waters and pollution on the promise that even the weariest river winds somewhere safe to sea. And I'll end up at your door, later than expected, but still a sight to see.
