The Argument

Okay soo I don't usually write, let alone post anything to do with my writing but I wanted to write a backstory with a few of my OCs for a thing so I basically had a concrete view of what actually happened. Might as well post it somewhere since I have it! Hope if someone reads this they kinda like it lol

Ciel aimlessly wandered through the wide empty hallway of the castle’s second floor, a book tucked securely under his arm.

Sword practice had been canceled, although he hadn’t remembered and was now forced to figure out something else to do with his suddenly free hour and a half. His aimless wandering ended up leading him right back to his room, much to his general annoyance. Although he wanted to do something more productive, he silently opened the door and stepped inside.

He went over to his desk, set down his book, and sat on his bed. He took a small note of Lotus’ unmade bed across from his, as he always did before reaching over to the foot of his bed to pick up another book he had left there.

Immediately after, he dropped it from the slam of a door in the hall, followed by muffled arguing.

It didn’t take him long to realize who the muffled voices belonged to, Lotus and Laura.

He sat there frozen, anxiety growing as he listened to the sounds of their argument getting closer. He was going to just wait for them to stop, but it was clear that they were coming toward the room.

He swiftly shot up from the bed, looking around the room for a moment, trying to figure out any way to get out of there and avoid the crossfire of their argument before deciding to go to the closet. He knew he didn’t have enough time to leave the room before they approached, so he chose to just wait it out.

He sat on the closet floor, leaning against the door as he heard Lotus and Laura walk in, the door slamming behind them. Their argument continued as it had been.

“Won’t you listen to me just once!? Your parents are less stubborn than mine, you know that. It’s not that hard to just ask them something! I’ve done it so many times, why can’t you just do it one time?!” Laura yelled, her tone clearly laced with annoyance.

“If you do it all the time I don’t get why you can’t again. Just ask my parents yourself if you don’t want to ask yours.” Lotus responded, clearly reciprocating Laura’s annoyance.

“Oh, my gods Lotus it’s not even about that-!”

Lotus cut her off. “What is it about then?!”

“It’s about how you never just listen to me! You can’t just ask something because I asked? Why do you have to just..ugh- be so selfish!?”

Ciel suddenly felt sick. He shouldn’t have been hearing this.

“Why do you care so much?? Pauline doesn’t care this much about stuff. She would’ve just left it alone.”

“What does she have to do with anything? We’re not even talking about her-”

“Well, I guess I am. Maybe you should be more like her, she doesn’t overreact so much.”

“What does that mean??”

“I don’t know- I guess... I guess maybe I should be marrying her instead. It’s not like Ciel would care.”

Laura immediately went quiet, but Ciel could still hear the shaking in her tone. It was clear she was either about to cry or already was.

“You…You idiot!! How could you say something like that, you intolerant prick!”

Ciel heard the click of her heels against the wooden floor as she shoved Lotus into the wall shared by the closet.

Ciel lunged forward from the sudden bang, his heart beating out of his chest as he quickly sat back up.

“OW! That hurt!”

“Of course it did! How could you say something like that? How could you say my sister is so much better than me?! You… You can’t really mean that. You don’t mean that.”

“I don’t know, maybe I should!”

A quick sound of unsheathing metal filled the room.

“What are you-...What is wrong with you?! You can’t just pull a sword on me! You’re crazy! Just…Just apologize! I don’t care anymore I’ll ask! Whatever! Just put that away and apologize! I don’t want to do this anymore!”

“Why would I be the one to apologize? You’re the one who cares so much. Just let it go and ask!”

“Gods why do you have to be so mean!?” She shoved him again, but immediately after let out a blood-curdling scream.

Ciel harshly flinched at the sound, covering his ears with his hands. He didn’t know what was going on, and he really didn’t want to.

Something hit the ground with a loud thud.

“Wait- Laura- I…I didn’t mean it. I swear I didn’t mean it, I just… Laura get up. Laura please just get up!” Lotus said, clear desperation lacing his voice.

After a solid minute of silence, Ciel heard the sound of his shoes clanking against the floor, getting quieter as he left the room, leaving only silence in his stead.

Part of Ciel wanted to stay sitting there, just waiting for something else to happen, but he knew he couldn’t stay there forever. He didn’t know what was going on, but at the very least he needed to make sure they were okay. Maybe get out of there before anything else happens or escalates.

He stood up from the ground, his hands slightly trembling as he opened the door to the closet, glancing outward. He didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary, everything seemed fine. He thought that maybe it was just an intense argument. That is until he looked down.

Laura was sprawled on the floor of the room, blood oozing from her stomach onto the wooden flooring underneath and around her.

He felt like he was going to puke.

He took a step back, not being able to tear his eyes off her body despite how much the sight terrified him. He didn’t want to be there. He shouldn’t have been there, but he forced himself to step forward. Approaching her was sickening, but he forced himself to kneel next to her, blood soaking into his pants as he checked her pulse. Her heart was still beating. It was faint but it was something. Something was good enough.

He swiftly turned at the sound of the door opening. His eyes met with Lotus’ in the doorway. The look of panic in his eyes was what finally made everything click in his head. The argument, Laura now, everything. That’s when it really clicked that everything was real.

“Ciel I… I didn’t…You’re-” Lotus stammered, unable to get the words out of his mouth as his glance frantically switched between his hands, Ciel, and Laura in front of him.

“What… What did you do-?” Ciel asked quietly, looking back to Laura, motionless beside him.

“I don’t know! I just.. Please, It’s not important. Ciel I…I need your help. Please just…help me.”

“I…I don’t need to. Lotus, she’s still alive. We need to get her downstairs. We can still do something-”

“No. No Ciel it’s… It’s too late to do anything. No one can know this happened! We just need to... need to fix it!” Lotus said, quickly walking over and kneeling down to Laura, grabbing her legs. “Take her arms. I think I know something.”

Ciel didn’t know what to do or how to respond, he never did when it came to Lotus, so he silently nodded and quickly grabbed her arms. His heart dropped at how simple it was. He expected struggle, even though there was no way there would’ve been any.

He and Lotus silently carried her down the dark, empty hall and entered a room, her room. He followed Lotus’ lead when he set her down by her bed, leaning upright against the frame.

“What are we even doing? I think we could still get her help-”

“It’s too late, Ciel. I already said that. They wouldn’t be able to do anything anyways, I…I promise.” Lotus sighed, his expression an upsetting mix of nervousness and fright as he removed his sword from its hilt at his side, still covered in blood, and set it down next to her. “No one needs to know anything…okay? Everything’s fine. Everything….is okay. They’ll just know something happened, it had nothing to do with us.”

Ciel silently nodded, following Lotus as he stood back up.

“...Right. Everything is okay.”

“Yeah… Let's go figure out the room, okay?”

“Okay,” Ciel responded as he went over to the window, opening the curtains before he allowed Lotus to steer him out of the room.

As he closed the door to her room, leaving her there, his mind just kept repeating.

Everything is okay.
