NOTE: Okay, so this is gonna be a controversial topic. If you don't like it, please scroll. In addition to that, my writing skills may look amateurish, I'm trying my best TwT. I would like to see tips about writings, so please share your opinions!
What is freedom of speech? What does it mean to you? Is it allowing all people's opinion or the only "correct" opinion? Is the freedom of speech only limited to certain beliefs? If it isn't, then why there are people who are doxxed, banned from sites because of their honest opinion?
Don't get me wrong, I do not support hateful and murderous speech but are we sure that every speech is supposed to be hateful? After all, this is the internet where everybody is supposed to share their own opinions. But because of a blog in Internet that they made YEARS ago, people can lose their reputation and even their job, family and much more nowadays of because of an internet sensation - cancel culture. And sometimes I wonder, if the canceled people are actually guilty? Because as I said, everyone is allowed to share their opinions on Internet, that means person can also lie about something, someone, somewhere. If the lie goes viral then, BOOM, even if the person is not guilty at ALL, people with mob mentality come after that person. The Kwite situation already showed that not everyone is trusted!
And as to the freedom of speech, for example, what would you do if someone shares the opposite opinion to your belief system. Would you type in keyboard agressively "YOU'RE WRONG!!!!!" or just ignore about it? Well, see, there are many internet trolls today, so, most of them post VERY controversial blogs to just gain attention, so you should ignore, because saying agressive crap isn't going to help either way. Remember that you can dislike some opinions but shouldn't force your beliefs to someone. That completely destroys the meaning of freedom of speech!
Now, that's what I think about this topic that surrounds us all the time. So, what's your opinion about freedom of speech?
Have a nice day! <( ̄︶ ̄)>

We have the freedom of speech we just aren't free from the consequence we get from it.

I would say I am pro free speech but I'm against harmful speech. So yes this means I'm someone who thinks hate speech should be allowed, despite personally I look down on hate speech. Like one comment said hate speech is like a spectrum to people. Everyone has a different view of what is and isn't hate speech and trying to control it is just as messy as letting it run loose. But I would prefer the latter.
We have the means to block people so I don't understand why it's so normal for someone to get banned off a platform because they said something somewhere most people won't see. Discord is bad about this. You could be sharing edgy memes and telling offensive jokes in a friend server. But if someone happens to decide to report you, even if you NEVER share these things outside of your friend group, your account is gone.
In my experience free speech spaces are generally friendlier as well. Since no one is there trying to control others there's much less drama. The worse you'll probably see are trolls spamming the n word and rping as skinheads. But I'll rather see that than see people constantly calling out other users and advocating for their ban.
And of course the most important thing. Free speech allows users to discuss and debate. People can freely discuss with no fear of ban and it helps other users understand others and see more view points. Debating does as well and there's people who enjoy it. One problem with the modern age is too many people view debating the same as arguing. Debates can get a little heat but that can mean they're passionate about the topic. I don't get what the problem is if no one is actually lashing out or insulting anyone.

its really sad how freedom of speech is still a privilege in today's era no matter how advanced human civilization gets, I also agree with dio and the other person that commented that it can turn sour very quickly. in the end we can't control other people and their choice of words on controversial subjects or just about any topic for that matter and its something all of us has to accept.

Dio is right, even hate speech is protected under the 1st amendment. Although I do not codone hate towards any people/groups or interests. But here is the slippery slope, who gets to decide what is hateful? I can say I think saying “cartoons are only for kids” is hate speech. That is just an example.

So, in a nutshell hate speech is like a spectrum to everyone, I see that.
